Default Road racing an impreza?

Is there anyway to race an impreza RS in any kind of SCCA club racing? I looked at the SCCA website, and the only Subaru's they have listed are the old GL's, and Justy's!!! I would imagine that the RS would fit well into ITS.

Thanks,
Seth E.

the RS is legal for ITE, which is a funky class in and of itself. zzyzx (Steve) races one in that class.

btw, ITE is a regional class, so technically an RS may or may not be legal depending on your region. Most regions run it as a catch-all class for other series, so most likely you could run under world challenge rules, but you will be racing big machinery like turbo porsches, and even Ferrari Challenge cars.

I hope to be picking up a 99 RS soon. I had planned to use it as a track day/time trial car, but if it could be built up using ITE, SSC, or SSB rules, that would be fantastic! One of the first mods will be a full cage, so building a cage to meet SCCA spec would be cool. SSC/B requires cars can't be more than 5 years old, so I wonder if the car could be up dated to meet the up to date specs?

New rule this year, SS cars are eligible for 10 years.

Ru Fan!

I'm planning on campaigning my '96 Impreza L next season in Time Trial and NASA events. I'm getting an SCCA/NASA legal cage installed this fall.

Keep in touch with me and maybe I can hook you up with my cage guy if it comes out nicely. Hopefully will be going for my comp liscence in the spring.

Hey, good to see that there are a few of us around here that want to do more with their cars besides going to car shows, and street racing 16 year olds.
Paisan-
Who is building your cage? I believe that "Sean" here on the board has had great success with a guy in the MA area. I forget the name of the place, but I am sure I can ask Sean. I need to get a current rule book to get an idea of what kind of cage I would need to have installed.

elgorey-
I love that scca forum. I wam going to sign up soon as I have a chance.

Oh, and if "zzyzx" is around, I would like to talk to him too.

Thanks guys!

Cool. yeah this guy is in upstate NY about 40 miles west of albany, near my lake house. He builds cages for Nascar semi-pro, dirt racers, outlaws, and just about anything. Been in the biz for a long while and he's done good for me in the past. We'll see how mine comes out on the L and take it from there. You'll get a chance to see it probably at an ice race up in MA, Zephyr and I will likely be doing some of those.

you're probably going to have to wait until after the finale/nationals to talk to him.

really, how much is the cage going to cost you? (if you know yet)
what town in NY? I grew up in central NY.
I am planning on putting a cage in sometime in the near future and I was going to have my brother help me put one in. He has built many a dirt track car from the ground up and is a great welder. I want a to feel safer when I'm on the track.

Any new information? How can I find out if a certain car will be legal in Improved Touring? Who should I contact in my local region?

I race my Impreza RS in ITE in Midiv.

I'm sure your region has a website with helpful information. Contact your Regional RE.

ITE is a regional only IT class. Once you get your hands on your Region's ITE class defition, you can determine if the RS is eligible.

In Midiv, ITE states that any car legal in any pro racing series, following the specs of said series, is legal in ITE.

Naturally, that by definition means that an RS will not be competitive in ITE... neverless, I don't mind losing to World Challenge GT-spec Vipers. I used the World Challenge Touring Car rules to get me in the door. However, the car is mainly a Street Prepared Solo II car, so I confine my mods to Solo II rules (DSP). If you want to run a dual purpose car such as mine, your stuck with either Street Prepared or Prepared.

Sometimes we run ITE in the same race group as the IT cars, and sometimes with the run group that includes the Production/GT/Touring cars.

In terms of the cage, you need to build it to IT specs as stated in the GCR.

Here's a pic of my RS and my "support vehicle" :

Let me know if need any other info.

- Steve

I am currently looking at a 1997 Impreza L 2.2L. The car is a lot cheaper than most people sell their RS's for. Where can I find if it is elegible to run in speedvison? Would this allow for motor swaps? Irish Mike was running a 02 body RS with a overseas 2.5L. Wonder if a 1997 L could be updated?

Keep the details coming! I want all the juicy stuff.

Talking

Wow, things are moving fast here on the old motorsports forum.

zzyzx-
I am wondering how your car compares to other cars in other IT classes. How does it stack up against a CRX, or golf? If you were to focus your car solely on ITE, what other mods would you make? What kind of suspension mods do you have? Below are a few links hat I have found useful, do you know of any others?

Go check out the thread on sccaforums agian on the RS in SSB/SSC. I posted some info there about this.

Two:

1) Stoptech brakes. Not because they stop better, but because they will make our inherently weak wheel bearings live longer.

2) A 300 HP World Challenge spec NA EJ25.

Quote:

Double adjustable Koni 8611s, with strut housings built by Ground Control & some custom work on the rears for added camber adjustment.

Looks like you have it covered. Did you find your Regions ITE ruleset yet?

Ya, when did you get the slipstreams? I presume those are 225's under there too? I thought I was the only one

We will be entering a 04 Impreza in the Speed Vision World Challenge in the touring class. Look for us at the three west coast races and perhaps a select few others (Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio are probably the ones we will go out to).

Wish you could come way east to Lime Rock! Have you ever talked to Irish Mike's race team? They ran the 2.5's last year, but didn't do as well as they hoped.
