those pinch creases/welds really have me a bit anxious about using them as i'm trying to figure out where pressure is really applied when using the provided jack. there seems to be competing opinions on putting pressure "inboard" of the crease (ie, towards the center of the car) vs. distributing it "about" the crease (both towards the outside of the car and towards the center of the car). i also wonder how wide the "jack point" support is about this "notched" pinch weld as i have heard the suggestion of jacking up the car and putting a jack stand in that area at the same time (but that would require about 8+ inches of width which can support the car!) |

Or you can have us service the car as we just use lifts.
I would say something like Race Ramps or Rhino Ramps would be the best way to go about it. Remember to use a block or wood or something so the car does not roll backwards off the ramp. We rarely use jack stands anymore unless we are at the track and need to fix something in a hurry because at the track there is no access to lifts. :P Gary |

that seems be the consensus safe bet: using ramps. maybe i'll have to bite the bullet and buy some. i actually think that the new 2012 impreza 2.0i can probably done without jacking the car up or ramps. the bolt is reachable (barely) by sticking my arm under the front of the car. but i wouldn't mind doing it once or twice with some clearance to get to know the car better and what i'm doing... do you guys do "major maintenance" service (ie, 30k, 60k, etc.) stuff? i usually do most stuff myself, but don't mind leaving the major tuneups to pros (but not the dealer!)... |

I have never done any major maintenance, but I would do the 30k my self, since its the easiest. 60k seems a bit harder and I personally wouldnt do it. But everyone has their own skill level with car maintance.

haven't actually looked in detail as far as what is recommended at 30k. i do minor stuff (oil and fluids), but certainly for more involved things like timing belts (i know: the impreza 2.0i doesn't have one. yay!), i leave those things to others to assist me.

Oh okay good. lol
Be sure they dont try to charge you for some random things, and make sure they point out to you what needs to be done. My mom almost got an estimate of $150 from some random mech, which he said the O2 sensor wasn't working. She was suspicious so she left the shop and told me to look at it. Guess what that guy did, He unplugged the sensor (well i suspect he did since no one has opened the engine bay for a good while and never had a check engine light untill after getting the car back), and i fixed her car within 5min, finding the issue and plugging it back.. They got shut down last year, so im glad they did. Anyways, stupid question, but what is the "200 point check up"? |

I brought my car in to the dealer for a sqeaky pulley; and they charge $150 just to look at it plus they estimated $1000 to change the power steering pump because it was "leaking". And I had warranty too, but it wasnt covered Took it to both shops (diagnostic was free btw) and they found nothing wrong. So I dont plan on going back except when I get a new car And the 200 check point thing(not sure of how much tho) is when they buy a used subaru; subaru checks everything and if there is alot of stuff wrong or worn they dont resell it or they fix it |

I thought it would be under warranty since its not a part that will wear down easily like a clutch or brake pads. -_____- could of used that money for my sway bar lol

ohh, well no one did anything. and if something does happen and we get pulled up by the cops their not allowed to do anything.
were not causing a scene; since all our cars are parked and not on. they can't kick us out because were paying customers (if we plan on eating dinner there :P) in and out's parking lot is private property; they can't do anything unless in and out calls the police on us. and all of us are parked and were just chilling; outside our cars. Theres no probable cause since; like i said our cars are off and were not in the drivers seat. |
