First Subaru. Gonna build to drift and daily.
Well I picked up my first subaru last month. Its an 03 WRX with 129k miles. I got it for $1500 from the original owner bone stock with a bad trans. Already picked up an 07 trans with 41k for $600. Now i just need the clutch slave with line, lightweight flywheel, some clutch kit, clutch fork, center diff sleeve, front axle plugs and a kaaz lsd for the r160 and i should be running. I have been looking for a rwd daily for a while and this fell into my lap at stupid cheap price so i cant say no. Plus the drift tax here in Chicago is insane. Rust bucket swapped 240's go for 5k+ Anyway I plan on doing some drifting but Im going to leave the motor pretty untouched just removing the cats and a mild tune. Cant wait to get this thing going.
Pics will be coming soon

Interesting choice for a drift car.
Nice find, though. $1,500 is dirt cheap. |

Yea it was too good of a deal to pass up. Plus with the trans being bad off the bat it just makes sense to build it into something i can enjoy. I also tend to venture into areas that aren't mainstream. Im sure there will be some hate on the rwd plan ive seen it in the other rwd subaru threads/ videos

It is pretty clean. Only a little patch of surface rust by the gas door and a couple dents that can be pdr'ed. Quote:
Update: I welded my old center diff couple weeks ago. I ordered axle seals, tailshaft seal, clutch fork and pivot ball from subaru. Last edited by Dirtracr95; 03-06-2013 at 10:54 PM. |

I managed to find an 02 WRX for 5k, which is not the greatest deal ever, 157k miles on the body, and an 04 tranny instead of the 02, the clutch is slipping though, and I'm not sure how much yet. Left a voicemail for the seller and also emailed, so should be getting more info soon. Minor dents on the right side from a shopping cart incident which I don't mind all that much. Still looking around for better deals, but I have my eye on that one

I believe if you want to "drift" this car you will have to get a new oil pan. a split pan so when you are sideways you are not starving one side of the engine from oil.

So are you going to convert this into a RWD? Or just use the Differential to transfer most of the power to the back?

Converting it to RWD.
I may add some baffles to the stock pan or just run an extra qt in the pan thats as long as there isnt ground clearance issues when i go slammed and that an extra qt wont reach the crank and get whipped. |

I love men as well as trying to sneakily spam forums, but Unabomber is way smarter than I am.

Picked up my front axles and flywheel with pressure plate. Already got the axles apart and got the inner cups cleaned. Are the splines on the outer cup of the 05-07 front axles the same as my 03 hubs? Im assuming yes. Then I need to pull the outer cups off also. |
