Default car overheating!! any thoughts?

Well i decide to change out the radiator and i didnt like it for some reason and put the stock one back on. now the car with the stock radiator is over heating. My AP read 230 F for the coolant temp. Any thoughts? some say it may be a air pocket others think its the thermostat but the car has 13k miles on it....The way i filled it was, i toped it off then i turned on the car and it was over flowing all over the place it did not stop. i got a CEL for the Fans. Im thinking of taking it to the Dealership ..probably don Beyer. i cant drive far b.c it starts to over heat. it stay at the third line up from the bottom...any help would be great

thanks

You probably didn't fill and bleed the coolant correctly.

First fill the overflow bottle.
Next, fill the radiator up to the neck.
Then fill the tank by the turbo. Leave this last cap off and start the car with the heater on and let it run for several minutes. Add coolant to bring the level back up then replace the cap.

I find if I jack the front end of my car up pretty high on stands, foot..foot and a 1/2. I don't have any burping /air bubble issues at all. I just switched to a Koyo, added two gallons and some of fluid and then ran the engine till the coolant fans came on. That was the extent of my air removal. Put it back in the ground and drove it normally.

Every other time I've done this, the car has been on stands or ramps. I wonder if this is the secret?

well it seems that other ppl have the same issue. when i grab the top hose there is no coolant in it. so this would mean that i leave the tank near the turbo open, leave the cap on the radiator, and just squeez the top hose and keep refilling it...im guessing this is one way of getting rid of the air pocket

Or jack up the front and then fill...

I never thought hooking the upper radiator hose did anything. The first time I changed fluid, the car was on the ground and I had the same air-bubble/overheat problems.

****Survey says****

Air bubble. Most common issue in this situation. Follow steps from post #2 and you should be good to go.

Had this happen when I installed the supercharger in my VX, and I was so excited for the maiden voyage that I pulled it out of my garage and headed down the road without bothering to bleeed the coolant lines. Needless to say, bleeding the line in the parking lot of an elementary school 12 miles away wasnt part of the master plan.
