Post Poll- How many nails have YOU had in your tires?

So, this morning I find ANOTHER nail in my driver side front tire. I thought I heard metal tapping the other day when I was driving with the windows open. And this is the first nail that my Subie has gotten, but I've been thinking about all the nails I've had to have removed in my years of driving- I can say that in 15 years, I've probably had to have 10+ nail holes patched up, and have had to replace 3 tires due to holes in the *sidewalls*! (One was vandalism, so that doesn't count, but of the other 2, one was on the INSIDE of the tire, and one was a nail just sticking out of the side...)

Am I just the unluckiest person in the world when it comes to tires, or is this just a regular thing, and I should invest in a set of those self-sealing tires? And how many nails have you guys had to have pulled out of your tires??

I remember in one of my Toyo Proxes I had 2 screws and 3 industrial staples. I have no idea how they got there. The tire didn't leak either. But it cost me $170 to get the tire replaced..that wasn't fun.

Had an airgun nail in one of my last set of tires, noticed it when I pulled 'em off the last time. Dunno how long it was there but the tire held air fine-- not that it mattered much since it was at the wear bars.

Besides that haven't had any in a long time. Avoid new home construction sites and striking laborers.

I've had 2 nails in 11500 miles. Speaking of nails, I looked closely at the floor of my new garage, & it was covered with nails & staples! Guess I was lucky that time.

Jaxx, I have a story like that. I had a sparkplug embedded in a tire-- amazingly it was holding air, just making a big thump every time the tire went around.

I was like 17 at the time and my dad saw it, grabbed ahold of it and yanked it out. Of course the tire was flat in seconds. The look on his face right after he pulled on it was priceless. (whoops!)

The last thing I had stuck in my tire was a coat hangar. It looks like someone was using it to jimmy open a door and threw it down in the parking spot. I was lucky enough to park on it. What a racket driving away tho!

Thumbs down

Ask akuhner...he pulled two nails out of his tires before AutoXing at Boeing. Teehee. I've only had six, but that was one shot. Bastard neighbors put a board full of rusty nails in my parking space. How do I know? One of the nails had a chunk of sweater on it the bastard was wearing when I approached him.

Picked up an 8 inch spike once that went in the center of the tread and out through the sidewall. Would have liked to see that sparkplug.

3 nails, 2 screws, and a 3 inch rock. dont know how exactly the rock got in there, but it did. lucky for me, i know ohw to fix the stuff, however.. the 3 inch rock incident led to new tires.

I've only had the car about a month and a half, and had to have the rt rear replaced because of a screw in the sidewall. On my previous car, I had about 3 flats due to nails/screws getting stuck in the tires. I've said it before, get roadhazard if you can. The stock tires cost $144-170 new! Not fun to replace one and buying four new ones of a different make sucks if you've only gotten a few thousand miles out of the originals.

Every time I visit the local builder's supply house ("Menards") I come out with a nail in a tire. So I don't go there anymore, I go to Home Depot. I was something like 5 outa 7 for nails to visits (lazy bastards never cleaned their lot).

This sounds completely crazy but the other week I went to swerve around some dead animal in the road but I didn't get far enough over. The end result was that one of its bones had punctured my tire. The sick part is that there was also a hunk of meat sitting on top of my sideskirt underneath the car.

I picked up a screw one week after getting my car. Two weeks ago, a friend of mine picked up a two inch "blade" of metal in his brand new Pirelli P7000's mounted on his new 17" BBS RX's (he drives a VW GTI). He bought them from Tire Rack, and didn't get any kind of coverage. The tire was so new.

None. And I've run 205/50's for 60,000 miles. I try not to drive on the shoulder though.

My ma had an 8" long 0.5" x 0.5" metal spike stick through one of her michelin's. Went inside the tire, and the tire resealed! What a racket it made.

Only ever had one nail. It was in the front passenger side tire of my Saab 9000 CD Turbo when I went to trade it in for my SVX. They never did notice it when we were discussing it's trade in value. Too bad for them

On My SVX I've had the 'pleasure' of peeling off about a square foot of tar of my front drivers side tire. The construction crew didn't give it enough time to cool and I drove right over it. Talk about a horrible sound and it felt like I blew the tire because the tar conformed to the tire making it out of round. It took about 45 minutes to peel it all off. Not a fun thing to do!!!!!!!
