Default Safari Rally lights?

By the way, have you (or anyone else) considered mounting aux lights on the side mirrors like older safari rally cars? I know that this means the mounts need to be easily detachable to maintain compliance with California Vehicle Code, but making a pod on the side mirrors for small aux units like the PIAA004Xs isn't that difficult. All you need are a few bracket material, spare side mirrors, and pod-like material like the roof flashing I used for the fog trims. Imho, it'll make a nice addition to the extensive array of lighting you already have on.

Maybe the Hella 90mm fogs are better candidates since they won't be dwarfed by the rest. Iirc, a member by the name of wrxlvr made custom side pieces for 90mm Hella fogs.

I have discussed this at length with Rally Innovations, but thus far we have yet found the time for it. I for one wanted it. One of the other things I was thinking of was adding little motors to it, so that you can use them a search spot lights, and have them remote controlled in the cabin.

Yeah its funny that a majority of the posts are from Cal. Gotta wonder what we are doing

but if you must ask, I Road Rally... at night. There's nothing like getting out on to the back roads and canyons in the wee hours while everyone else is dead alseep.

I am thinking of replacing my stock, broken fog lights on my 95 Impreza L. Anyone know of some aftermarket fog lights or driving lights that would fit the space alright? I've searched with no luck.
Thanks

Yes, as you previously indicated. Nevertheless, I would've expected states that experience severe winters to post more responses.

If your my1995 L looks like this L below, then even the rectangular Hellas like in post #4 in the previous page would probably not fit. You may want to remove the foglight housing altogether and fit Hella Optilux projector fogs there. Imho, any reflector type foglight that is small enough to fit that space wouldn't be as useful as projector fogs. Most of the Optilux Projectors would fit there. You just need to make some custom brackets. Other than Hella Optilux Projectors, PIAA 959 projectors, Hella DE Driving lights, and Hella Optilux Xenon DE lights would probably fit as well.

I have a 97 Impreza LX as well, and I was thinking of fitting so of these. I can check later in the week to see if they actually fit. I have the lamps for another project.

I was wondering if these would fit, I was thinking about Hella's. If you could find out and maybe take a picture, that'd help. Satrya, I'm kinda of interested in a replacement that will fill the weird shaped hole, look close to stock, and are not too expensive but thanks for the info. I may add more lights later though. Also what kinda of lights are the stock ones, driving or fog? I'm still not sure if i should get driving or fog lights.

One thing that will surely fill the weird shaped hole is this one available off
http://www.subaruparts.com/catalog/?section=12#34
(see picture below). Although, US$165 hardly classifies as "not too expensive".

If you don't mind a bit of DIY, you can find some roof flashing and trim it to fit the profile of the bumper opening. I did something similar for my my2002 impreza. The material itself cost about US$4-5 per side, available from Home Depot. The roof flashing looks like the picture below (although you'd probably want one that has a smaller opening size.

Here is a comparison between before and after adding the trim. I believe a similar thing can be fashioned for your bumper.

Regarding what lights are better, that depends entirely on what your needs are. The stock ones are supposedly fogs, although I don't recall them being that useful in general anyway.

If you want better peripheral & near-field vision, especially during inclement weather or driving in twisty roads, then projector foglights like the Hella Optilux projector types or PIAA959 Turbojector (I think that's the name) would work best. The Hella Optilux projectors are slightly smaller than the 959, with the 959 using higher wattage bulb and costing much more. The 959 might not fit the recess.

If you want lights that aid the high beams or project a long beam for long, night drives in the middle of nowhere in good weather, then driving beam pattern is probably better. One model I can think of that fits that space is the Hella Micro DE. (see a post by brunetmj on the first page on this one).

Others here may have a different opinion.
