The sedan is a bit better. My loaner cvt base was "easier" to drive.

That Volvo I drove sure was refreshing, believe it or not. It was slow but had a tight solid feel and decent handling. The seats and visability were AWESOME. My first time driving a Volvo. We passed on the car, but it was something we were looking at for my girlfriend. Who has been driving my truck... |

Another little quirk:
When the cruise control is engaged, stepping on the accelerator has NO effect. It seemed a little dangerous at first, but I'm used to it now. |

I accelerate without disengaging cruise control all the time. I have the manual tranny, but I don't believe that's relevant.

i have driven a couple but quite honestly, was not all that impressed. the car was comfortable, but i remember feeling the steering was sort of vague, but cars are personal things. slow of course, is all relative. i'm old enough to remember when 0-60 in 9 seconds was considered a very good acceleration. even 0-60 in 10.5-11 was considered a good number. but times have changed, and the former is considered modest, at best. what matters to me is how the car handles, even though i rarely push my cars to the limit. the Impreza delivers this extremely well. even though i don't need AWD, the way the Impreza handled relative to the other cars i test drove convinced me to buy it over the others. |

On the contrary, I have often stated on this forum that VWs are great in many regards. Superior even to our Imprezas in some of these ways.
However, reliability (and associated costs) and blind-spot visibility are two area in which VWs truly do suck. |

I am in the same situaion as you guys. I bought a 2012 Subaru Impreza hatchback with a 2.0 engine and manual transmission. At about 3,000 miles the low engine oil light came on. I took it to the dealership, and they suggested an oil change. They added a quart to the engine and sent me on my way stating that my engine was in the break in period.
As time went on I could never go the full 7,500 miles without adding a qt of oil. I had the dealership do an oil change at 22,573 (I have everything well documented) per the reccomended oil change schedule. About a month later at 24,820 miles the light came on again. Being 2,200 miles after a fresh oil change at the dealership, I thought something was wrong. I called up Subaru customer service and they told me the owners manual states that it is normal for the engine to consume a qt of oil every 1,200 miles. I nearly lost it. I asked more detailed questions and he replied "I'm not an engineer or a technician, I cannot explain why". I sent many e-mails to Subaru customer service asking why my engine was consuming so much oil, and never got a solid answer. I took it into the dealership the next day. They put a qt of oil in it and told me they would do an oil consumption test the next time I come in for an oil change. I left thinking I wouldn't make it to the next oil change before my light came on again. Sure enough about a month later and at 25,802 miles, exactly 967 miles after the oil change, my low oil light came on ... I took in back to the dealership, the girl there was surprised an oil consumption test hadn't been done on my car yet. She told me they would start one, however I would have to pay for an oil change. I told her that was ridiculous seeing as how I just paid for an oil change 3,000 miles ago and I shouldn't have to have one done for another 3,500 miles. She agreed and told me this one would be free. While they were working on my car I was talking to a technician that worked there. He told me that if I were going through that much oil, the only thing that would fix it would be an engine overhaul. He was surprised when I told him the owner manual states it is acceptable for that engine to go through a quart of oil every 1,200 miles. The technician working on my car came back and told me they did not do an oil change nor did they want to start an oil consumption test at this time because they needed more information. I asked them what kind of information they were looking for and they said more information about where the oil is going. They added a qt of oil to my engine and told me the service manager would contact me in the next couple days regading my situation. In summary, my car is consuming an abnormal amount of oil and nobody has an answer as to why. The oil consumption is getting worse as time goes on and nobody knows why. It's a great car don't get me wrong, I just wish it would stop going through so much oil. |

I wonder how many are started dry and caught before they completely self destruct, but the customer has no idea he lost 100K miles of engine life in a few seconds. Check the oil and filter before starting and it's actually difficult to screw up. |

We just got back from a 1000mile 5 day trip away with 3 adults, 2 children and the Tardis like hatch swallowing an infeasibly large amount of luggage. Found we were totally satisfied with the Imprezas comfort and economy which covered some rough back country tar and loose dirt/mud roads always instilling a feeling of total composure. As reference we are nearly 6,000 miles since the last service in November and the oil level which they filled 10mm over is still just above the Full line. |

Subaru hasn't fixed his car yet because he hasn't done a consumption test yet, well one that is done right by the dealer. He will be bringing it in shortly though.

The real Problem comes with the frustration where dealers seem to be incompetent in what are doing or are deliberately obstructive in fixing obvious problems, anyone who has owned cars long enough will eventually suffer from it, a mate recently with Audi and I had battles with my FORD dealers incompetencies a few years ago eventually I lost interest in fighting them instead finding a recommended competent independent mechanic. My problems eventually sorted and I still love driving the car but would never buy a new Ford again because I can never trust their Servicing Dealers capability or honesty. |
