Default Legacy Rear shelf and pillar area noise/rattle

I have been hearing a popping/ticking noise coming from the passenger side, rear shelf/window area. Almost like tapping knuckles down the side of a television.

It occurs at lower speeds (>35), driving on uneven ground, turning corners/bends, as well as, going uphill/downhill or pulling in/out of driveways (mainly with bumps).

I brought it in to the dealer and they deemed it to be a loose clip that latches into the shelf (at least that is how I understood it). They repositioned the clip and it went away for a little while. Now, the noise is back.

I know this noise is coming from the rear shelf and/or pillars. I almost think that there is not enough stuffing under the shelf because I can push all the way down on it and it stick my finger under the plastic pillar covering.

Has anyone else had this issue and know of a fix? Or something along the lines that I could try?

Go back to the dealer and tell them whatever they did didnt fix the issue and they will have to try and fix it again at no cost to you. If they cant fix it and it really bothers you email SOA and see if theres something they can do about it for you. I would first try the dealer again though.

I did bring it back. They said that they can't hear anything and can't fix it because of that reason. I asked them to just redo what they did because it worked for a short time,, but I don't think they know what they did. I've read all sorts of blogs that have had an issue in the same area.

My 2004 STi was doing the same thing... I took out the rear seat, and the rear shelf cover and then went to Home Depot... I put this stiuff under everything http://www.homedepot.com/p/Frost-Kin...3#.UeaQZKJBnng Works like Dynomat... made my stereo system sound better, reduced road noise, and everything that was rattling is gone. Cost me $20, and 2 hours of labor in the drive way.
