Post Extended Warranties - Opinions?

Just looking for others' opinions or advice on whether extended warranties on Subarus in general, and specifically a 2002 Impreza are worth the money. I've got a 2002 TS and bought the 7 year extended warranty for about $1500 when I bought the car, but have 60 days to get my money back if I change my mind, and I've been thinking about it lately. What do you folks think - any personal experiences - wish you had an extended plan or wish you didn't pay for one you didn't need?

I didn't get it. With new cars these days, if something is to go wrong it's most likely to go wrong during the standard warranty coverage. I think that Subaru's are durable and shouldn't break down that easily with proper regular maintenance. Same goes for the rust proofing. If I were going to keep it for that long, I know I would be turbo'ing it after the regular period, so the extended wouldn't really help me with my mods.

I was thinking of extending the warranty to 7 years too (for the WRX sedan we have on order), but maybe I won't... any other opinions?

Btw, there's like a $100 deductible on any warranty work with that extended warranty... I heard that in the US there's a 6-year plan that has NO deductible, but Specialty never mentioned anything like that...

Now, the mods I will be doing for sure are intake/BOV/cat-back, suspension, and maybe a boost-controller of sorts. Are those mods "drastic" enough to void the warranty? (I'm gonna check with Subaru about this, but just thought I'd get your opinions).

Thanks!!

Fred, as long as those parts is not causing the problem to make you claim the warranty, Specialty is more than happy to see Mod. in the car!

Question

How come Specialty is willing to see Mod on car? Are they mod-friendly?

i think specialty has a true love for subarus.. and when someone does a good mod to one, that means they like their car... so specialty has a common interest.. same reason why we all like looking at each others mods.....

my dad has got a 7 years/160,000km warranty from Don Dock when we bought the car about 5 years ago...

we were happy but now thinking back if i can choose again i won't get it...the tranny goes wrong at 45000km in about 3 years so that's under warranty anyways...

and actually we have been thinking about trade in for a new car...just the extended warranty made us keep the car...hehe...

i didn't get any for my Civic coz i planned to mod it and if the case i need to get sth fixed under warranty...i will be mad...they will void it for sure coz they are not as friendly as Specialty...hehe..

yeh exactly.. do you even plan on keeping your car for 7 years.. wow.. that's a long time... and i bet that most subie owners will do enough mods to their car that they'll void their warranty. and if something does happen in let's say.. 4 yrs... i'm sure you will have enough friends here in the iclub to help you out..

gawd... iclub is soo wonderful.....

Sunny, just go see them, and make sure they lay out ALL the extended warranty options. You can decide when you purchase your car, or even a little after that (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this! I can't quite remember now. ).

Read the service/warranty booklet that came with your car. It'll tell you everything that is covered under your warranty.
