Default Going for state inspection, also need 15k service. Overlapping items ?

Taking my 06 STI in for state inspection/emissions, also need to do 15 K service. It appears that some of the items on the list for the 15K service will be done for the inspection...

Here is the 15 K service schedule from mysubaru.com:
Inspect Clutch operation
Replace Engine oil
Replace Engine oil filter
Inspect Disc brake pads and discs, front and rear axle boots and axle shaft joint portions.
Inspect Steering and suspension
Perform Inspect brake lines and check operation of parking and service brake system
Perform Rotate and Inspect Tires

I do my own oil, so scratch that. I am also having my snows put on, so scratch tire rotation.

so the remaining items are:
Inspect Clutch operation.
Inspect Disc brake pads and discs, front and rear axle boots and axle shaft joint portions.
Inspect Steering and suspension.
Perform Inspect brake lines and check operation of parking and service brake system.

I know the brakes will be checked for state insepction... Can anyone confirm if the other items will be done also? Can i do those items myself? i looked on scoobymods and didnt see anything concrete. The car has 18K on it now, runs great. These items will also be done at the 30 K service, which i will be at in about another 1.5 yrs... Should I just wait until then? I am going to ask the dealer how much more $ it will be to do those particular items... I just dont want to be ripped-off, or pay for something that is going to be done on the other service or vice-versa.

Those are all pretty basic checks and should not cost much. I assume the state inspection is done by a private garage? If so, just ask them to check the clutch etc as well. Or just leave it; I have never had any of that stuff inspected unless it seemed like there was something wrong with it.

There are no techs/mechanics that post here, so quit holding your breath.

Inspections require you to put your eye on stuff. 99% of dealers "do this", but it's just a line item that they never actually do. Every gotten the 79 point inspection at Jiffy Lube???? Get my drift?

If you don't know what to look for, you will have to have a dealer do it, but keep in mind, it will just be lip service. Read the Maintenance FAQ at the top of the forum for more advice and remember......my.subaru.com is NOT the source for maintenance information as it includes much dealer crap. Subaru.com has your maintenance schedules....the REAL ones.
