No one has reported issues with the '06 I mean. No reason why it wouldn't work.

Just, as usual, us bugeye owners are stuck with picky ECU's

It does. Thats why most people with the 64 bit have to run Romraider or Ecuflash in compatibility mode.

Right, but they still run don't they? And it shouldn't affect the drivers?

Depends considering BFM is providing the driver. The Tactrix cable driver comes from the Ecuflash software. Colby designed both Ecuflash and the Tactrix cable.......

I stand corrected - I didn't realize 64-bit drivers could be dissimilar enough to cause the cable to not even work.

I'm sure Cody has a fix for that

Myth: You can flash and log on an 02-03 USDM WRX using the BFM cable.

Status: Confirmed????

Just got my BFM Cable, works good so far. Was able to log a few runs in Rom raider and also pull CEL codes with Rom raider learning view.

The el-cheapo Vag-com cables will do that as well. Reading and flashing 02-03's is what this thread is about.

Tried again tonight, still wouldn't read from the ECU. Logging and learning view work fine so no change there. The only issue I can think of is my drivers, when I installed them, it wouldn't let me choose the driver so I had to go back and Update to get the supplied one loaded up. My "USB Serial Port" in the device manager, the Driver tab shows the FTDI 2.6.2.0 driver. This is the correct one supplied in the BFM package, right?

I also tried the FTDI 2.8.2 drivers, changing the port speed to 4800 baud(VAGcom successes), various timing combinations.

This is all with ECUflash 1.41.2483

Has anyone had any luck with the new BFM driverpack?

I received my BFM cable last night. I installed the new driver pack step by step using the video. RomRaider logger worked without a problem. Ecu flash did not. I had the green connectors together and the flash block installed(jumper wires in my case). I tried several times timing it differently and could get it to work. I kept getting the same error message. I will try again tonight and post the error messages after.

I also can't get ECUFlash to read the ROM. I have tried everything the video showed.
Is there a way to change the COM port ECUFlash is trying to use?
06 WRX
The only ECU Flash I have is 1.42.2595, video shows 1.41.2483 is there a big difference?

Thanks.

Ecuflash should see your COM port, showing the device at the bottom right as FTDI XXX or similar. Tactrix cables show up as Tactrix xxxx. COM port ID is automatic as far as I can see, no control over it. You can pop the USB into another port, which will change the COM port Ecuflash sees, but doubt it will change a thing if it sees it before and no workee there.

Oh yeah, the word is that all Ecuflash versions after 1.29 check for a valid Openport device. No idea how BFM has it working with the 1.41 version as seen on the video if it is not a real Openport cable. Maybe they dropped the ID verfication?

I've had one for a few weeks and I can run RomRaider, Learning view no problem. Simply cannot coax this thing into doing ECUFlash. same error as everyone else.

And yes - i've wached the video and run the included software as well as the latest version. As for Cody - he was a stand up guy when he kept missing delivery dates and took care of me in the end. My only question is - he has promised an 02/03 car but the video is an 04/05. Obviously not the vehicle that everyone is complaining about. Has ANYONE gotten this to work on an 02/03 car? Timing or not the error comes up immediatly long before the timing is an issue.

I'm in the same boat as you man. I have tried every possible way to "time" this. I have run out of ideas. I'm starting to think that us 02/03 owners have been the the victims of some false advertising.

I just wish I could get their AEM UEGO cable to work for me.

So frustrating,

Default BFM cable

I'm officially giving up. I bought a Tactrix 2.0 cable today even though I'm not happy about it. Here is the kicker - while the money is irritating its not half as irritating as the 3 weeks I've wasted trying to make it work. If I had known that he hadnt really tested it on an 02/03 and that it wasnt going to work I would have just bought the Tactrix cable in the beginning. As expensive as the cable is, its still way cheaper than an accessport or equivalent. And unlike the AP I can use it on any Subaru from 02+.

Anyone with an 04+ car want to buy a BFM cable from me? We do seem to have proved it works just fine on 04-07 cars here in the forum. So for those people its a no brainer vs the tactrix. If anyone is interested drop me a PM.
