Default best cat placement

Im about to buy a catless downpipe and make my own exhaust system. I plan on running a straight through magniflow muffler in the midpipe and 3in straight back that splits into two sorta like stock. Is it better to buy a catted downpipe or put a cat between the muffler in the midpipe and downpipe? Or should i just forget the pipe?

Do you want the catalyst to perform actual conversion or are you merely trying to appear emissions compliant?

I've never gotten a sniffer test in New York, I don't understand why people keep asking me what I do about inspections without a cat. I say I pay the man and I'm good to go. There's not even any garages around here that have a sniffer. Hooray for a part of the northeast more akin to the deep south.

put the cat right after the downpipe, then make a straight pipe matching the cat length. make it easy to change and you have a test pipe for full time use, and a cat for sniffer time.
