Thumbs up ASR Turbo Kit Installed

I finally got off my arse and installed the turbo kit i go tfrom ASR.
first the fit and finish is on par or even better than some of the kits i have seen.
Install wansnt too bad, i made it harder than i should have been on myself.
i have some pix here http://albums.photopoint.com/j/Album...652&a=11711576
the motor out of the car is just for fit up. its not going in the car.
drivability, i have a lazy map in the tec-2 right now so it really fat but thats fine for me right now. i see 5 pounds at about 2800-3000 RPM. i have it set at 5pounds to do the shake down for a while then turn it up to about 8-9.
you can reach Alan at ASR at 1 949 412 4ASR.
this is a great kit and might be a good alternitave to the JC turbo kits you were trying to get
thanks for listning to me any questions feel free to ask

Looks like a braided string reinforced tube like a coolant hose. Should be alright... I was running 10.5psi in my Volvo through one of those to the IC and another to the TB from the IC.

I go to "Co-Drive" this afternoon. Even with a rich fuel map, and 500 pounds of He-Man onboard - that thing FLIES. We went out in the rain through a business park.

Very Impressive. I should have had some pace notes. Even nudging 190+hp, I rarely get a feel for how much the AWD does. Well, with 5lbs of boost...All Wheels must be Driven. I, as of this moment, am building my turbo kit. God help us.

What's wrong with rubber hoses? I know silicon is better, but SAABs came stock with rubber hoses for many many years. And stock boost pressure on a SAAB 900 Turbo was 12-15 psi depending on the trim level and year. Hell, I've run over 20 on my rubber hoses in my SAAB.

So Chris, decided to chuck the CARB legality requirement?

If all goes well, I may have my car back by the 10th of March or thereabout. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one.

Nobody's going to go CARB legal now - financially it makes more sense to sell exhausts to 15k WRX owners than whole kits to RS owners - I'm going to build my own, or buy a basic kit somewhere.

There are still plenty of 2.5L engines going to be sold in the RS models in 02. And for an average starting price around 17-18k, a lot more of THOSE will be sold than the WRX.

That IC looks very homemade. Did you make that one yourself or did that come with the kit. In some of the pics, there is no aluminum tube welded to the IC...did you do that yourself or are they 2 different pieces?

Do you have any pics of the downpipe that fits onto the cat?

Hey Tom, I'm glad your cats are doing fine.

Ya know that wastegate looks like its gonna take a beating by rocks, squirrels, newts and the occational turtle. You planning on makeing or getting an undercarrage shield of some type?

I really love the way the tap/fitting was done on the oil pan. Did YOU do that or did an oil pan come from ASR?

Nothing wrong with rubber hoses.. just surprized... havent seen a longish rubber hose in a scooby kit yet.

Im interested in this homemade IC... you buy a core and weld the tanks yourself?

just to clarify this again
i did not order a full kit from Alan'. this was a one time deal because i wanted to do my own IC and a few other things. the up/down pipe and the turbo was from ASR. i did the IC and the boost side plumbing myself. i wanted to see what i could do.
i need to clean things up a bit. i was getting tired dn needed to get the car back running so i could drive home

Happy to see you turboed. I am looking forward to seeing you kick butt at the autocrosses. They couldn't touch you without the turbo, now they don't stand a chance.
We have to get together for the IDRC Drags on the 17th, and 18th. I will definitely be running the car and show the rest of those drag boys what the Subie can do!
