I've heard good things. From that brief phrase you mention, it sounds like you just need to go somewhere different as well as a little spontaneity. Don't get hung up on details. Just go already.

<-- wishes he did something like that at some point, just to say he did

good LORD it is hot there!

And you wouldn't think it, but the winters can be bonechilling at night.

Lotta crime in Phoenix. I'm not sure what the draw is, at all.

Urm .. it's a big city. I'm sure there's got to be a single lady somewhere.

I live in Tucson, south of Phoenix. I like it here. It's not as hot in the summer, college close by (you wouldn't believe the chicks here, must be something in the water.) and it's growing quickly.

Plus, housing is just as cheap. If not cheaper.

I lived in Phoenix and Arizona while I was in college. Phoenix is nice in some areas, very ghetto in other areas. It all depends on where you live.

The streets are very grid-like

I-17 up to Prescott, then Hwy 89A up to Sedona are very fun drives.

It is hot there during the summer, but it's a dry heat. I didn't think it was as bad as I thought it would be, since I spent most of my time inside with A/C on. You don't really sweat there, since it all evaporates immediately. But if you stay in the direct sunlight, it does get quite toasty. I remember once parking my car and walking to the store.. Looking back at the asphault of the parking lot, I could see my footprints and tire tread. Mmm, hot.

Overall, I enjoyed living there. But I was up in a nicer part of Scottsdale, so I may have a skewed perspective.

Phoenix Sucks.

Hot summers straight to cold winters. About 5 actual liveable days a year.

Highest rate of car theft in the nation.

Lots of crime

No one has car insurance

The Only thing I like about it is its close proximity to actual nice cities. It is 5-6 hours from San Diego, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.

It's not as bad as some make it out to be. Really only south Phoenix is the main bad area of Phoenix as far as crime goes. You'll have to expect crime in any large city. That is the price you pay to live in a "civilized" (read: not backwoods po-dunk) area. Also, don't listen to crybabies about the heat. Yes, summer is HOT. But there is really only about 3 months of hellish weather. The rest of the time it's generally beautiful weather. Unless you live in Hawaii, you're going to have at least 3 months of hell no matter where you live. Either really hot summers, or really cold winters, or even the poor schmucks that get both. On a final note, give me 120 degrees with 0% humidity rather than 90 degrees with 30+% humidity any day.

P.S. Methinks Eric SS has no idea what cold really is if he thinks our winters are cold.

Lived in Colorado when I was younger and went through a winter in Michigan. I know what cold is. I personally like Phoenix Winters but what I am mainly refering to is the difference in temperature. It goes from hot to cold really quick.

when you mean the crime is bad in south phoenix....is that south outside the city? I was looking at a house in what I would consider south phoenix...like 5-8 miles from downtown...area looks nice....where are the ghetto areas....I'm sure its not as bad as southeast d.c.

'rents lived in Mesa for years- yeah, it's hot - turn your oven on to 350 degrees- stick your head in it- that's Phoenix in summer! "Yeah, but it's a dry heat!". Ha!

South Phoenix is BAD = stay away. Burbs are not bad- Dad's place had a roof-top deck and a 18' deep pool - drinks on the roof overlooking the city, then dive into the pool off the roof.... ahh, good times!

I lived in Phoenix from K-7th grade and I loved it. I sometimes think about going back for the affordable housing. $150-200K for a nice house with a pool in one of the nations fastest growing cites....I don't see how you can go wrong?

The heat is not all that bad. My Dad now lives in North Scottsdale, very upscale area, very nice home. I go out there a few times a year and only once have I been really bummed about how hot it is.

phoenix isn't so nice. grew up there, and it's gotten worse. Pollution is like LA. Not so many young women and they don't go out so much, not a social scene like in other large cities. It might be better than Baltimore though.

I grew up in Minnesota, I know what cold is.

All the downsides of Phoenix pretty much even out down south. It's not as hot in the summer, crime isn't as bad, but also the nightlife isn't as good, and there isn't as much to do.

There are some amazing places to drive out here in Tucson, though. It's almost an hour up the mountain .. if you drive the speed limit.

I think you haven't been out here in a while. There are really tons of clubs out here now, if that's your thing. They are continually updating downtown Phoenix to get more night life going on. Tempe and Scottsdale is really where it's at for the clubs right now though. And, you know that Tempe and Scottsdale is right next to Phoenix, so that's a non-issue. It's way better out here for that sort of stuff than it was like 5-10 years ago.

Pollution is bad, but nowhere even close to LA. The best part about it though, is when you get sick of the heat, just pack up and drive a couple of hours north and you are camping in the cool mountains in the forest. Can't beat that.

My hubby went to UTI in Phoenix while I was in college, we were dating at the time, so of course I went down to visit him. They had an apartment in Scottsdale.

I thought it was absolutely beautiful. Hot, yes. But a great place overall!

Just some .02 from a couple time visitor..
