Why didn't subaru just continue using the exact same engine it used for the past 7 years before 08... that obv. had no problems and I fail to see any real engine improvement, more like backtrack.

Where did you buy the car? If I'm not mistaken, I think I passed it up for a VIN in the 5055xx range. Sorry about your car. I'm still waiting to see if mine goes or not.

This might be a noob question, but does this affect the regular impreza 2.5i as well? I'm considering getting one of those later this year.

It seems to have been restricted almost entirely to 2.5 turbos built last August.

Some folks are shocked and outraged that Subaru is below average in the recent JD Power 90 day survey. Apparently there's a conspiracy involved.....

I don't think I ever posted this video here:
http://www.digitalfiends.com/downloa...ineIssue-1.wmv

This is what my wife's car sounded like the day of the failure. It wasn't as bad or as loud as some of the videos on YouTube, but it turned out to be the same failure.

Just a reference for other people.

Default add me to the list...

I guess I'm number 75?

New engine on order.

Miles: 7988
Build: 08/08
VIN#: 804xxx

I didn't notice the knock -- actually brought the car in for a service to the alignment. They called and said there's a knock but wasn't audible from inside the car.

Default minor?

im sorry to hear that you guys(75 of you) have engine failure on your 09wrx. Im think about getting a 09 wrx. So i researched on 09 wrx(265) and found this engine failure problem. And i thought.... there should be lots of 09 wrx sold already(i heard 4000 impreza are sold every month) and 75 + ppl has this problem. so there is much less chance to get the bad ones. right?

of course there are ppl who, having the same problem, are not in the list.
but still arent those ppl still a minor compared to the ppl who got the good ones?

should i risk and buy it?

i sould avoid the built date of (07/08 ~ 09/08)
