Default Mazda to debut MX5 Miata GT Concept

Quote:
Does the idea of a Mazda MX-5 Miata with 205 horsepower – a useful bump over the stocker's 167 ponies – sound like a good idea? How about one with an upgraded suspension, carbon fiber front splitter, rear diffuser and spoiler?

Still not good enough for you? Fine. Throw in a free-flowing exhaust with single center-mounted tailpipe, body-color roll hoops, sticky tires and a pair of Recaro seats. If we're describing the Miata of your dreams, we suggest you tell Mazda how you feel – this exact machine, dubbed the MX-5 Miata GT Concept, will be on display at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it will make a run up the hill.

Mazda says it's "seeking customer reaction" to the hotted-up sports car, which it says is inspired by its MX-5 GT race car. Mazda: We speak for all when we say, "If you build it, we will come." Also on display at Goodwood will be the Mazda Takeri Concept and the company's new CX-5 crossover.

Concept looks a bit gaudy, but I'll take one!!!

I like it. If this is a special trim to their current MX-5 lineup it might cost north of $27k

I'd be surprised if it was under $32K.

Nope, gotta turn out a bunch of special editions to complete the proper automotive product life cycle.

I never understood why the Miata(or any roadster for that matter) didn't come with hardtop standard. Makes the car look miles better.

To compete directly with the BRZ, Mazda needs something like this with a working hatch...

Best pic I could find.

Needs more power. Looks like some ricer's wet dream. Yet another tarted up variant of a car to milk a '90s-throw-back design for more revenue.

Bring it up to the 2012 design and the concept hp and you might have something. 205hp and 50/50 weight distribution. Yea, that would work.

Miata-based coupe... powered by your choice of a turbo-Skyactiv engine, or a 16X rotary.

MX5 or RX5.

Sounds good - throw in convertible hardtop as an option? :P Preferably one that works in slow speeds. IIRC, with their current convertible hardtop, you have to be at a full stop for it to go or down.
