Unhappy 98' Front axel leaking grease again

This will be try #3. The first two times they just put in thicker grease. They finaly used the gasket kit which worked for a little over one year. I am now leaking black golad all over, what a fine smell. How may 98's have had to go back after the recall gaskest were put in??

Hi there,

Over here, the replacement grease color is yellow ? The original stock color is a dark/black color.

Perhaps the US uses a different color grease to us.

I had mine done in the spring of 98. They replaced the grease only, no seals or anything else. The grease is the same nasty grey goop. No further problem todate.

My dealer told me that the company that makes the axles for Subaru pack it with their own grease, which tends to get more liquid like when it gets warm. Thank god for warranties.
