Dyno Authority
Hello fellow NWICers,
Just an FYI, Dyno Authoriy is an authorized COBB ProTuner with a Mustang All Wheel Drive MD-AWD-500 chassis Dyno. We can handle vehicles with over 700 hp, and have had it as fast as 212 mph with a Ferrari Enzo at one point. The Dyno was installed in 1999 and Tim has over 6000 miles on it since. We host EFI Tuning classes here too. Check it out at www.efi101.com The fun doesnt stop there! Tim is experienced with Turbo XS UTEC & DTEC, AEM, Autronic, MoTec, Mega Squirt, E-Manage and more. Tim is also in progress with setting up an Open Source Reflash system using ECUFlash & Enginuity. Since we are in Redmond, WA the drive to us is not so bad. Keep the rubber side down! Yeah, you read correctly. Check em out @ www.efi101.com I have attended the class and can say that I will attend the next one also! Ben Strader, the instructor, is fantastic and is a wealth of knowledge. EFI101 is the basic, entry level course for stand alone engine management. For the course I attended Brian Macy of Horsepower Connection brought an EK Civic hatch for live Hondata tuning to actually show the class what was going on on our dyno! It is very informative and useful. The EFI Advanced course is even more intense, where you, the noob tuner has to learn to run the dyno and build your own base map from scratch! Under the eye of the instructor of course, Ryan |

Thinking about Dyno Authority? Read this!!
New to the Washington area? You may have many of the same questions I had…who’s got an All Wheel Dyno and for Gods sake, who knows how to use it!
So here’s my story… After a week of forum searching I ended up settling on the Cobb Accessport 2 for my moderately modded 2005 Subaru STI. As innovative as the Cobb product seemed, I knew I was going to want a ProTune. I just felt uncomfortable having my $34,000 beast running on an off the shelf tune, especially when I couldn’t verify the many parameter’s that needed to be in check for a “safe” tune. I placed a few phone calls and ended up settling with Dyno Authority. The rates seemed competitive and Ryan was willing to answer ALL of my questions. Ryan literally walked me through every component that needed to be prepped before I brought in my car. To me, customer service goes a long way…Ryan and the guys at Dyno Authority did their job at settling my fears and making me feel as comfortable as possible about tuning my car. On the day of the tune I was greeted with the same courtesy I had come to love on the phone. I was promptly introduced to Tim, Dyno Authority’s resident tuner…after a few questions ( I had hundreds), my car was whisked away for prep. Now for the fun part… It took all of 15min to get my STI hooked up and rolling on the dyno…another 10 after that and I was staring at my first pull numbers. I patiently watched as Tim made pull after pull. It was actually quite interesting watching my car evolve right in front of me. Tim was very methodical…he really didn’t speak much during the actual tune itself (except for answering my dumb questions of course), I didn’t mind though…I could tell he was in his zone. In the end, Tim was able to make a very reliable 299HP/285TQ at the wheels (mind you, a stock STI only pushes about 245 to the ground). My goal was around 300…as close as we were, I was very satisfied. Take this review how you will, just one guys opinion…I will close with this… One month later my car still hits like a freight train, no check engine lights, BETTER fuel mileage!!! Yea, who would have thought…. Next is the Turbo Upgrade… Will I use Dyno Authority again? You’re damn right. -Derek |

Derek had done the APS equal lengh headers & turbo back. Perrin Signature Sieries front mount intercooler, Short ram intake,
COBB AP Ver. 2.0 & the ubiquitous Walbro 255 fuel pump. Stock turbo & injectors. The OTS map put down about 265/270 whp. |

The OTS maps from Cobb aren’t bad, if you can get a consistent supply of 94 octane the 93 map would of course net better numbers. But either way, OTS maps are super rich… I appreciate the wide safety margins Cobb incorporates into their OTS maps…It is my opinion that my car was running generally safe under COBB’s OTS 91octane Stage 2 map (noting first dyno pull numbers), but after $600 spent on the AP2 and over a thousand on a turboback…I needed better numbers. I don’t think anyone will disagree…get your car Pro Tuned. To me it was worth the money to have everything optimized. -Derek |

At these power levels the stock intake is what is recommended. (The stock intake is actually good for air flow of up to 400 crank hp) However in the case of a FMIC there is no room for the stock intake, so you have to imporvise. I personally like the APS products for their high quality and excelent fittment. Perrin products are not a bad choice either, you will just have to work with the fittment. |

I would recommend replacing the fuel pump as early as a stage 2. We have seen a couple of Sti's that have maxed out the stock fuel pump with some of the stonger VF-39's. Having extra fuel on demand is always a great idea and as we all know our Subies are thirsty machines. Besides it is one of the least expensive & most important upgrades. Ryan |

could I get a stage 2 tune for my AP ver. 2 for a good price? I am wondering that if I go to a place that specializes in subies (PDX) that I could get a better tune. Not to diss you guys, since I live in redmond but how experienced and good is your tuner in relation to pdx or something else? Also how much would a tune be for a stage 2 wrx?
