OT LTC/CHP types: "Man robbed at gunpoint on neighborhood street identifies suspects"
Preface: The victim was mugged by three one sporting a handgun while carrying a CCW and choose not to draw...
Three teens arrested in Mountain View robbery linked to another TRAUMATIZED: Man robbed at gunpoint on neighborhood street identifies suspects. By MEGAN HOLLAND Anchorage Daily News Published: December 20, 2005 Last Modified: December 20, 2005 at 02:29 AM A man walking in Mountain View on Monday morning was robbed at gunpoint by a group of teenagers who police say were gang members responsible for another robbery a week ago at a nearby department store. The robbery victim was carrying his own concealed weapon but chose not to fight off his attackers and handed over his wallet and cell phone, Lt. Paul Honeman said. Police say the teenagers were also responsible for a robbery at the Gottschalks store at the Northway Mall on Dec. 11. The three teenagers -- two boys and a girl -- were arrested Monday and charged with first-degree robbery, third-degree assault, third-degree theft and third-degree misconduct involving weapons. Because of their ages, their names were not released. As of Monday night, charges related to the Gottschalks robbery had not yet been filed, Honeman said. One or two other people may have been involved in the robberies, police said. According to police, the teenagers walked up to the victim, who was not identified, near Peterkin Avenue and Schodde Street around 8:30 a.m. One teenager asked him for a cigarette, then, seconds later, another pulled out a gun and demanded his belongings, Sgt. Pablo Paiz said. The teenagers fled on foot, police said. Cha Lee, who lives nearby on Peterkin Avenue, heard the victim approach his home, yelling, "Help me! Help me!" When he opened his door, the man was shaking and "looked very scared," Lee said. Honeman said the victim was traumatized. Hours later, police tracked down the teenagers several blocks away at a condo at 425 Price St. after one made a call on the stolen phone. In the home, police found the victim's wallet and the handgun, Honeman said. Police also discovered photos of the teenagers displaying gang colors and flashing identifiable gang signs, Paiz said. The man positively identified his attackers, police said. Monday afternoon, outside the condo unit, a snow-covered baby stroller sat inside the chain-link-fenced yard, near an upside down laundry basket. Nobody answered the door. Next door, a teenager said she knew her neighbors but would not speak. "I don't want to get killed," she said. Two doors down, another young woman would say only: "They need more things for us to do. Get some programs or something." She, too, was scared to say anything about her neighbors. On Dec. 2, 20-year-old Fiatau Saena was shot and killed when he ran to the aid of his mother during an armed robbery outside her home on Tarwater Avenue, a few blocks away from the robbery Monday. George M. Romero Jr., 18, has been charged with Saena's slaying. From the balcony where the teenagers were arrested Monday is a clear view of the alcove in the apartment building next door where 24-year-old Christopher Sanchez was shot four times on Dec. 4, He survived. Police do not believe that incident was gang-related. Police have made combating the nascent gang problem in Anchorage one of their top priorities since several gang-related murders earlier this year. - Janq

Pretty smart move honestly. If they wanted to kill him, they wouldn't have asked for his wallet and whatnot. They'd have just taken them from his dead body.

I bet the 'just a kid' factor came into play. Regardless, he took his chance, and won. I hope that isn't his standard reaction to every affront.

I agree with you both Bham and Poison.
Smart move and best move overall in hindsight. Ever since the Tacoma Mall thing though I've been thinking to myself about the 'Just a kid' complex and wondering if I'd fall into that mode of thinking. I don't think I would but heck kids now days are knocking folks in the head at 12 and such. - Janq |

Also there is almost no one alive that can reach, draw, point and fire a concealed, holstered weapon BEFORE the dude already pointing a gun at your head pulls the trigger.

I applaud his restraint and better judgement.
Never take an offensive position with a weapon unless you are going to use it. |

Doesn't anyone else think it's odd that they have Samoan gangs in Alaska?

Just for your future information, your first objective is not to draw your own weapon, its to remove the danger to yourself. IE; Kick gun out of hand, block gun away from your head, duck.... Etc. THEN draw your weapon. |

Nice ninja. Hey, whatever makes you hot, guy. Hope your pride is absent the day you're mugged. OK i get it. CONFRONTATION might have been a better choice of words. |

Janq comes through agian with another great CCW read
I think the kid "factor" came into play aswell .... he probbly didn't feel threatend untill the gun was to his head, then it was too late. Now three full grown men randomly walking up to you may set off the buzzers a bit earlier. |

Ironically, if it had been 'to his head', his chances of being able to fight them off would've gone up exponentially, as opposed to them being at a distance. |

An excellent demonstration of such was featured by Tom 'Trains For Real' Cruise in the IMHO excellent film Collateral. http://www.z5films.com/videos/collateral.mpeg It's just like in boxing; Block/feint, jab, overhand. - Janq "Yo homey...Is that my briefcase." - Vincent, 'Collateral' |

Yeah, good point. Aside from that it may have allowed them to get close to him, it also may have caused him to believe they wouldn't pull the trigger once they had. Plus, one was a girl.

Honestly though, if they're close enough to need close quarters combat training... I'm not breaking out a pistol.

Great example of a speed rock, the only mistake that I see was cruise swings the attackers gun across himself after the first counter. Counter, control, strike, move, attack |

I don't play that just a kid krap .
Some kid acts a fool I will put his lights out. It's him or me.. Also if I had been that guard at the mall and some kid pulled a gun ,and I had the shot I would have blasted . That’s all there is to it. The kids nowadays have no respect. I don’t play that ish . I had some kid at home depot jumping off my bumper on to his skate board I was in shock he did it 3 times with his friends before I could get there. Well I grabbed the kids board and broke it in half, he was like whoa dude that’s mine, I said sure is now let this be your lesson. Next time some one might hurt you. Also I had some wannabe gangsters/thugs standing by my door to where I could not get to my car unless they moved .I told them to move and they said basically ef you. I said well that’s my car and I am late stop playing around, well one turned around and was acting like a tuff guy. So I yelled at kid like a nut job, and scared the little babies half to death. I am lucky though they could have been packing. I hate to say it but the hip hop culture that glorifies gangsters with the added no father in the home has made for some very dumb teens that are on a one way race to jail. These kids are so clueless they think they are gangsters because they have baggy pants, gold chain, and a tattoo. If you yell at one they run like dogs. I have a lot of first hand experience with them, my little brother is the biggest whigger ever. He lives in the ATL I went to stay with him for the weekend he’s 19 has his own apartment. Well he has a party with some of his friends and they are all thuggy. I am 5.10 185 not big. Well as they get to drinking. I bust out laughing at some guys dumb ash remarks and my brother was telling me not to mess with him because they’re bad! I start to laugh and the dude tells my brother that he’s going to knock me out. I laugh even more! So he walks up and starts talking I’ll do this and I’ll do that, I push him down with one hand slap his face 3-4 times and yelled very loud ( it works great ) you punk I’ll kill you . Well he didn’t even get up for 5 min. I know I might get in trouble 1 day but ef ‘it I will not take crap from no one be it woman, 19 year old, or old man. Especially old white women they will straight up run you over at the grocery store with their cart and act like it’s your fault. |

e40,
The guy at the Takoma Mall, McKown, was not a guard. He was a store manager in the mall illegally carrying in the mall which is posted as being off limits and non-CCW friendly. Also dude is strongly religious which probably didn't make things easier for him there either. :\ +1 regarding MTV wanna be tough punks and white women with shopping carts. All kidding aside does anyone know how to use their hands anymore. - Janq |

#2) NEVER Wrestle for a gun. If you aren't in control of the situation, end the situation IMMEDIATELY by any means nessecary/available. If you have to stab him in the eyeball with a key, do it. Can't shoot what you can't see. |
