^what he said.
It's relatively self-explanatory. If you want a different color, without ruining resale value, do it.

If you want a different color, and to drive a turd, buy 10 cans of plasti-dip at Lowes.

FWIW my car is wrapped.

I'm assuming those are custom made flares? The rear looks almost like an older 911 with the huge flares and the spoiler

If you want a different color and want to pay 1/10 the cost of vinyl, do it right and buy plasti-dip in sprayable gallons (not rattle cans from Lowes, hahaha).

If your gonna buy gallons and spray equipment you might as well spray real paint so it lasts

^^I disagree^^ if you don't like it anymore, peel it off and just buy more dip by the gallon and spray again to whatever color you want. Also a wagner sprayer is different than the air powered paint sprayers that the pro's use.

They are. Fronts, rears and bumper ends are all custom.

While I don't think it looks as good (personal preference), paint gunned, properly mixed plasti-dip isn't that bad at all.
But a good setup is an easy $500 from what I've researched.

Vinyl will run you about $1000 if you want to do it yourself- hope you have an ass ton of time and patience- and upwards of $2000 if you want a professional to do it. CL Designs of Lake Norman did mine (located in Charlotte area, North Carolina).

You can get plenty of colors and textures of vinyl wrap. They make shaded and clear as well so it can be made to look glossy or a matte finish. Hell, Samuel Hubinette's drift viper was chrome vinyl wrapped.

I have gloss black wrap on both of my cars. I keep the shine by waxing it. It also keeps the water spots off the vinyl

sorry I'm kinda old, did you make a typo? or is "jank" synonymous with junk? Either way I sense the hate on PD. To each their own I guess. I just think people will plastidip over vinyl and paint so they don't have to commit to one color. It's a lot easier to re-dip than it is to repaint or re-vinyl.

The first thing people usually ask me is "where did I get the vinyl wrap done?".

It's ok sc00by4life, haters gonna hate, bla bla bla. You sound like a big car snob but thats ok, we all love our Subarus. Dont talk trash about the quality of somebody elses work unless you see if first hand. Maybe if YOU dip a car it will look like crap but when I dip a car people have a hard time determining if its vinyl or PD. There are amazing things you can do with vinyl, there are pretty cool things you can do with dip as well. There are a certain breed of car guys that think both methods are ricer and junk. I say F them, its my car and I'll do what I want.

Oh and the initial investment was $530 including shipping to my door. That allowed me to dip my car TWICE. I have since dipped numerous wheels, parts and a couple other cars with the equipment from that purchase. You can get the job done with a $60 Graco from Home Depot in your driveway/garage or go all out and use a $2000 Iwata in an automotive spray booth. I could not find 3M vinyl for my entire car for under $1500. Maybe I looked in the wrong place but the cost of the PD is what made me go that route.... and I like being able to change the color of my car on a whim.

Vinyl is more durable and it does have some better qualities than PD. I like both methods and I take it as a complement whenever somebody mistakes my car for being wrapped. All I'm saying is PD is not junk and if applied correctly can look phenomenal.

You couldn't find decent vinyl for under $1500? Where the hell were you looking? You can buy enough to wrap 2 cars for about $700. It lasts longer. There are more available colors.

Next month my car will be satin black, for a cost of $200. That will be THREE times I've changed the color of my car for still cheaper than wrapping it once.

Haha, yeah it looked strange to me at first having it all solid. I peeled the side badges and dipped the grills black, looks much better now.

To the OP, as you can see vinyl wrapping has a strong fan base, and some haters. Plasti dip also has a strong fan base, and some haters. In the end its your can and your money. You are not going to ruin your paint or anything but since you have such a nice new factory finish why not invest in some really good polishes and a DA and keep it clean and shinny for a few months before you cover it up?

I only got into wrap and dip because of my destroyed front bumper; if I had a choice I would have preferred to not go dirt farming/replace my front bumper and keep my factory Lightning Red for just a tad bit longer (hell I only got to use my new Porter Cable on it like twice!).

Here is a dip that I'm pretty sure has not been edited:

Looks like vinyl to me.

Anybody have experience with a vinyl wrapped car in winter. ........ I mean, Minnesota winter not Florida winter

I want to get mine wrapped in the spring but Im a little leery on how the rock salt, snow, etc... will damage it in the winter. I want to get matte black.

I have a full clear bra on my hood and on my front clip. Ive been told vinyl is thicker than clear bra. I think my clear bra is 3mm

Plastidip can look pretty cool when you use some of the enhancing stuff like pearls and metal flakes:

For something that's going to be on the car for a few years I'd go with vinyl. You know what you're getting, uniform distribution, and looks closer to paint imho (I mean when I see it on the street I can usually identify a dipped car as dipped)

you don't have to do satin finish in PD

Vinyl is by far the way to go, but $$$

My car has been vinyled for almost 3 years I think.

1. Once you damage the vinyl in any way, it's permanent you aren't buffing out scratches from a thin printed sticker

2. When it chips if chips white and generally stays white, because the generic color was white before it's color was added

3. Vinyl holds up great in poor weather, and it protects the car underneath, and I've not tested this but it makes sense that in an accident it would hold the broken pieces together for easy collection

4. Vinyl can be more regularly cleaned in similar fashion of paint, however someone said they wax theres, and that's bad for it you can damage vinyl doing that, best to use a vinyl shiner or an after wax spray.

5. Application for too long can damage the clear coat upon removal

Dip

1. It's fun and easily diy

2. It's inexpensive you guys quoting 500 are about 200 too high

3. If you tear or rip or scratch dip you can semi-easily fix it

4. You get tired you rip it off

5. It can get stuck in door jams or rubber seals in a very annoying possibly non removable fashion.

6. IMO matte finish dip is horrific and you should gloss it when done

I've done both to cars, hope this helps instead of the hateraide conversation taking place which isn't really any good knowledge.

How about this: Heat Sensitive / Color Changing Paint

Probably cost quite a bit though.

If you're doing vinyl, make sure to go to a quality place. I've had buddies who went the cheap route either doing it themselves or going to small sketchy shops and it actually ruining the paint.
Plastidip is cheaper and removable, however if you're planning on doing the whole car, it may get kind of pricy for what you're getting. An 11 oz can is like $10.

At the end of the day, it's your car and you'll do what you wanna do, but IMO, both look cheap. Keep it OEM.
