Default Cobb AP. Loss of power, what??

Okay, so my buddy calls me to tell me he's going to PIA to buy a new AP. Which of course as I recruited this lil Shiz to the Subaru world, knowing his car is now pushing more than mine just ticks me off or at least that's what I thought.
Ok first off I drive an 04 wrx, he has an 05. Both with catback, he has a Cobb SRI. (I know, more mods can come after tax season ) anyway, so he calls me after he gets the AP installed, just the basic out of the box map, saying he thinks it made his car pull weaker. So he comes and gives me a ride, and I don't really notice too much of a difference until we hop in my stock 04. We really only had space to get on it through second gear and into third, but it did seem like mine pulled a little harder and least through mid to high rpms. AP said he was hitting 11psi on the first pull, 14.3 on the second.
Having virtually no AP experience myself, other than hanging out on NWIC all day, I was wondering if anyone experienced this themselves? I told him not to stress, teased that it's because his car isn't WRB, and do get a downpipe and protune to notice a difference. Any feedback?

i believe AP maps are very specific for the car. I'd make sure the out of the box map is appropriate for your mods.

It is hard to say what could be going on without any back to back data. In what gear is he hitting these boost pressures? At what RPM? At what throttle position? Has he taken it in to PIA to have it looked at? Can he do a datalog and post that up? It could be that there is something wrong with the boost control system, hole in a hose or needs to alter the restrictor pill etc.
