Don't you guys think you are leaning out the fuel mixture as the oil is being supplimented along with fuel? To reach a high MPG you run less fuel (lean) condition correct?

The oil burns along with the fuel, but even if it were totally inert, it's only taking up 0.16% of the mixture by volume.
The difference in fuel trim between E0 and E10 is far greater. Last edited by Commander Keen; 10-02-2013 at 09:35 PM. |

Too much crankcase pressure usually causes that. Is it a stock engine? This can happen if Pcv is plugged and not venting properly. I have a car with pump to evacuate pressure to a catch can, and a turbo car just venting to a catch can. Sometimes when you run more boost you'll see this, and you can get springs to hold dipstick down, or tie it down. Usually if its stock build with a tune and this happens, you might need to dial boost back a little, or take other measures to deal with added crankcase pressures It also could be bad news too. I'd pull oil cap off, and at idle see if smoke comes out. There should be pressure or air coming out, but if its smoke, then it could be a broken piston, or rings but prob piston. If your concerned, maybe do a leak down test on it and see. That'll tell you if and where the problem lies. First thing is to check Pcv valve, pull it and see if it rattled when you shake it. If not clean or replace. Then check oil cap off for smoke. Then do leak down test. I think you can buy kits fairly cheap that screw into spark plug hole with gauge and air stem to compress air.

Filled up subaru today. 30.5mpg, pretty much right where I have been all summer long with no Ethanol. The last tank had way too much wind, but still 29.1. I dont see stopping use anytime soon

I smelled what smelled like gear oil in Denver after stopping to eat. I didn't see any leaks so I blew it off. Didn't smell it again till this afternoon. Still no leaks, then I thought about it. I used 2CO in Denver, and again this am when filling up. Thinking in smelling that, and was thrown off.

My daily averages are consistently topping 40 MPG on 87E0+2CO so I'm happy with the results. I'm going to wait until the next oil change before voting so I can include consumption data. G2, are you sure you're running the right ratio? Two shot glasses treat the entire tank. |

I changed my oil just before Denver. Been changing it with RP every 2500-3000 miles. It's consistently perfect. I'm also noticing a weird vibration that only happens while idling in gear with foot on brake. Throw it in neutral and it's gone. But it's not a consistent smell, just today in town, and at chipotle in aurora co. Maybe its a coincidence. I add 2 oz of 2CO per 10 gallons. Actually 2 oz per a full tank. I measure out with mixing cup for paint then pour in. I'm sure not all goes in, and some sits on edge under fuel cap, so maybe I smell that. But...... Gear oil is gear oil, and that's a very distinct smell. So I'm doubting its the 2CO at all. Last time I smelled it was in a very large truck we built when wheeling it at mud stock and busted rear arb, and split diff cover. I'm hoping it's not the diff, I doubt it could be. Prob just a coincidence. I'm sure it was prob another car somewhere else. I would have smelled it on way back from Denver if there was an issue.

I wish 87e0 was still an option, but honestly I am seeing about the same (plan to do some number crucnching off fuelly data tomorrow to verify), and running the tcw3 is cheaper per tank than e0. I quit using it in the wife's car because she never tells me when she fills up, but she told me her mpg has dropped. She hasn't had it in her tank for at least the last 4 fills |

After one fillup with the TCW3. Car runs smoother, MPG gain is there, but not by much, maybe 1-2MPG. At less I didn't lose MPG when I was in more traffic this week. Any gain is a good thing, I'm in for more of TCW3.

Any gain is worth the inconvenience imho, wspecially when it costs about 0.25/tank

Rofl- sorry just had to. I need something better as well. I thought about trying to rig up something like the fluoride bottle my kids use. Squeeze a certain amount in top and pour it. No mess, perfect measuring capabilities etc. |

I use the quart size stabil bottle, but I need 2 more and at 10.00 each it is kinda expensive for just the bottle |

Not sure about the thickness of the 2CO, if it'll squeeze up and drain back down. But I think I'll try it out. I'll report back when I do. I figure they will have the bottle empty by this weekend. The stabil bottle idea is good too, I was trying to remember that.
I'm also thinking about automation ( not that I own a couple automation businesses or anything) and tapping into the neck of tank maybe (?) to dispense a pre-measured amount in with the press of a button from a holding tank. Kinda like a mixture of using my separate air to water Intercooler, and using methanol injection. Maybe use a overflow tank like used in meth injection to hold the 2CO, then a bolus pump to fill tank. It'll be an overkill, however if its going to be a planned use everytime you fill, $40 in parts and a couple hours of wiring to make it quick and easy would be worth it. I'll post up details after I locate what I wanna use and that way should anyone be interested you'll know |

As promised this is my data, looks legit to me! Need a few more tanks with the 87/89 e10 but I don't see any downsides so far! I could have added a few of my major roadtrips to the pre numbers before, but I don't know 100% ethanol content, and they weren't "normal" driving for me, all the numbers I did include would be my normal driving conditions, but if they were included the number would probably have gone up another 0.5mpg or so
I think for the sake of testing purposes my next 2-3 tanks will be 87/89e10 (depends on cost, if 89 is the same I will get it) and see how much MPG i lose, I am guessing 5-10% Last edited by flyboy1100; 10-04-2013 at 05:21 PM. |

Very nice data... looks like the TC-W3 E10 beat out 91E0, impressive!

91 noE yields better than 87 noE, as I'm seeing as well ( I only have 91noE), yet whatever the ethanol content your seeing the best with 2CO, good score! Not just need to perfect, or reduce the burden of adding 2CO. Maybe just a handy bottle and bottle holder for the hatch/trunk to ensure no leakage or spillage is all that's needed. I'd hate to be in a hurry and have a qt of that stuff spill in the back. I doubt the trunk liner would be adequate enough to contain it all

I'll look into the vacuum, and see what I can come up with. Actually, to be honest, I won't. I'm kinda busy but I'll prob have one if the engineers look into it, and if I think its cool I'll post it here and claim it myself. Rofl
