Default Do I need to tear down and inspect?

I've been running a JDM ver8 specC EJ207 in a pretty much stock configuration for about 50,000 kms in my 02 WRX. I'm just starting to get into installing a UR T3/T04S kit, and I ran into something that bothers me.

First, compression tests show that nothing has changed since I got the engine. 125 on three cyl and 119 on cyl 1. Never used oil or had any other signs of poor health. Ran strong with great powerband. I run a KnockLite and yes, I've had occasional det at peak torque. Nothing excessive, and I have de-tuned the stock ECU to cope with our lower octane fuel.

Yesterday I dropped off the twin scroll headers and turbo, and I noticed that the exhaust ports on the driver side are slightly brown/sooty while the passenger side ports are nice and clean, no white powder like a lean situation, just cleaner than the other side. I suppose my injectors could be flowing different from side to side, but more likely my fuel rails are running at different pressures.

I really don't want to, but should I pull the heads to look for other signs?

Or is this fairly normal?

Thanks for any thoughtful opinions.

Steve

Thanks. I wasn't too worried about the pressure difference though.

It seems that the passenger side is running leaner than the driver side. That's what I'm concerned about really.

Stupid question, but is it possible I reversed the in and out fuel lines when I put the engine in? I looked everywhere for a clear diagram of the fuel connections, and couldn't find anything.

Is the FPR a back pressure regulator or forward pressure regulator? Since the fuel rail setup is unique to the JDM STi, I couldn't just look at another car to compare...
