Default Raw Clear Bra vs. Template Clear Bra

Going to get a clear bra installed on my new car. Either Xpel or Suntech. The shop that installs the Xpel works with the raw material and custom cuts the material to fit the car. The suntech shop uses the Xpel templates to get the job done.

Does anyone have any experience with custom work vs template work? I know custom work will get you much better coverage when it comes to getting close to the edges. One thing I noticed about the templates is that for 2013 WRX the front bumper is pretty much one piece except for a little piece on the lower section. So all I would have to worry about is the parts of the bumper where it meets up to another panel.

I'm just worried about having them cut on my brand new car with the custom wrap.

If the installer is experienced and knows what he's doing, he won't actually cut completely through the clear bra. They cut just deep enough to score the material then it tears cleanly.. If they cut too deep, they will score the paint.. You can always ask if you can see some examples of there work to help you decide...

there's always that inherent risk though, they're cutting yards of this stuff. It only takes a tiny bit more pressure to cut through and into the paint.

I have an XPEL pre-cut kit for my car (which I'm actually not installing as the car isn't a DD anymore) but the pre cut kits fit very well. We just installed one on my mom's new Fiat 500 and we installed one on my dad's Avalanche in April. XPEL makes high quality stuff and it's heard to beat their warranty. I'd take the pre-cut XPEL route.

Ask for references and see examples of the shops work. Having good material is one thing, but it takes an experienced installer to get it right.

I've got thread in this forum about a bad install that I recently had.

I've seen quite a few pre-cut kits that are cut about 1/8" short of the edges. this leaves the leading edge of the hood unprotected. when cutting from raw material most installers will cut 1/2"-1" overhang and wrap it around to the underside giving you full coverage on leading edge. so ask to see their work and make note of the leading edge before you decide
