Need opinion on if a turbo is right for my build up.
Ok, a friend of mine was going to give me a good deal on a pe1820. Now this is my question.
my car: 2002 automatic, FMIC and custom turbo kit(soon to be installed) I am doing a motor build up also, I don't wanna raise redline because I got an automatic and I don't wanna go thru all of that to get the TCU remoded to raise the redline. I will be running 9:1 compression and have everything to suport the extra stress on the motor. My question is, will a 1820 be a good turbo for a track car/street car? IE: I am looking for power in the 30-90 range and mabye the ability to stomp on it from a toll booth and realy get moving and infront of all the slow soccer moms in their big block SUVs. What do you guys think? From what I read about the 1820 it is a high RPM boost maker. So this might not be sutable for an RS-T automatic and for what I am looking for. What are you opinions. oh and one more thing to throw on the table. I got a ride in a modded automatic rex with an vf34 last night, and it put a grin on my face... untill 3 grand the car was like a 5spd in 5th gear going 20mph...but after boost hit. "t'was the hand of god himself pushing you foward" so I also kinda got my eye on the vf34 also. moderators: I hope this is an sutiable topic. Please move if not. -Neal

are you srue about the raised redline with the automatic?

Well on the 2.0L WRX's, many don't see boost until around 4000+ RPM. This would less on the 2.5L, but I imagine it would still be a little laggy, especially if you were gonna be using it for auto-crossing. Surely it would be better if you were going to drag a lot.
Personally, I would never put that laggy of a turbo on my car, but then again I auto-cross and my Legacy RHB5 turbo is more like a supercharger, seriously. Graham |

For a 2.5liter engine w/auto tranny, I think the 1820 would be a kick @ss turbo. You never need to come off boost! How much boost/what fuel do you plan to run?
