Make a grey background. Then use the burn tool and burn around to get the desired shape. Or use the gradient tool depending on what type of look you want.

Dont hate on the trunk. I couldn't get one with the same angle so this is the best I could do. Give you a general idea.... kind of. Either way, you see the lowering!

I whipped this up in about 5 minutes of photo shop.

First thing first. It is easiest if you have the product against a solid background that is strongly different from the product when the photo is taken. That photo is okay but could be much better. Its called chromakey.

I created two additional layers, one white, one black. stacked with black on top of white then place the image on top of that layer and used the quick selection tool to create a layer mask to get rid of the areas around the image and quickly used a brush to paint in the edges a little more cleanly. As mentioned the chroma keying would make that a lot easier.

In the black layer I used a large eraser brush with a large gradient and just brushed in from the corner.

youtube has a massive amount of tutorials for photoshop and photography, two of my favorite channels are snapfactory and iceflowstudios. You can look them up.

Use the smooth tool in the refine edge window when you select an object. Its very simple and takes about 5 seconds to do once you have the item selected.

First get a tripod and set up the camera. Then take a picture of the car. Next take another picture with the hood open or off of the car. Then go on photoshop. Select the closed hood from the one picture and drag it to the picture with the open hood. Overlay it over the engine bay, then adjust the opacity of the hood layer to your preference.

So I will post an explaination and then the pictures. First off, you guys are pretty bad @$$ at photoshop. If you guys don't already know I'm building my STi for my sister and for the purpose of spreading Rett Syndrome awareness. The following pictures are a few of the ideas I was throwing around. Just to give you an idea of some of "the look" that is already know: I have a black perrin fmic and lightwerkz modified headlights (black with an inside white ring on the hid w/ halo). The carbon fiber hood I'm posting is the one I would like but I was thinking off putting white vinyl over everything except the side vents. Please play with the photos and throw all your creativity at it. I'd love to see what you guys can come up with. Thanks and can't wait to see your ideas.

PS. I would love to see one of your creations with purple wheels. If you guys don't know purple is the official color of Rett Syndrome. Please check out rettsyndrome.org or facebook.com/rett.sti for ideas.

very true, the selection tool I used is not very accurate with out doing the chromakeying when you take the photo so I was picking up some of the shadows and just brushed them away instead of getting into detailed selection with something like the pen tool for going around curves. etc.
