Default Status of current project

Well, back in November I blew my stock 2.5 engine due to some bad tuning at 10psi. It broke the ring land on the #3 from detonation and pieces of the piston tore the head up pretty badly.
I pulled the engine and took the heads to the machine shop. My machinist was able to repair the damage to the head and checked them all out to be sure they are fine to go back on.
During this time I took my intake manifold, turbo, intercooler, and charge pipe to the polishing shop. They are bright enough to blind a man now.
I bought an ej22t out of a junkyard in Arizona called Greenleaf. I got it shipped to my door for $415. I began to disassemble this new engine a couple of months after I received it. It turns out that they sent me a non turbo 2.2 engine. THis was totally worthless to me. I contacted them and amazingly they gave me a full refund, including shipping and I am keeping that engine as shipping it back would be a pain now that it's disassembled. So if anyone needs any parts off a N/A 2.2 I have a complete engine.
Last friday I went to a junkyard here in colorado and picked up a complete ej22 TURBO shortblock for $250. It has 130k on it though. I am going to disassemble it this weekend then it's off to the machine shop to get cleaned, balanced, re-ringed, new oil pump, seals and new bearings. Hopefully will get it back in another 2 weeks or so.
At that point I can bolt the refreshed heads on it, all the new bling and stick it back in the car. Then it's off to start tuning again. I got some Link maps from Mark Ramirez though that are for an engine setup very similar to mine. I hope to be running again by the end of the month. Wish me luck.

I also added: new plug wires, modded wrx injectors, new ludespeed up and downpipes to eliminate my vent to atmosphere wastegate.

EJ22-T for $250?!

Good find man. What kind of turbo are you using with your setup? Are you staying with the TMIC? Power goals?

Also, are you using the WRX injectors that have been modded to 740cc?

Awesome deal on that goldmine block.
It sounds like yet another Hybrid will soon be born!

Good luck on the rebuild, mine is almost done!

EJ22T with 130K for $250 mannnnn. Put some forged rods/pistons in that bad boy and you'll be around the cost of a brand new stocker! Well... close anyway.

PM'd ya too.

I am using my Garrett t3/t4 turbo with a .60ar. I would like to run about 20psi- which may be a bit optimistic with that turbo. I am staying with a TMIC for now but I am hoping to upgrade soon to a FMIC. I eventually want around 400 whp but that's a ways off. If I hit 350 for now that will be cool. I am currently saving for a new tranny. I am using modded WRX injectors controlled with a Link+. I wish I could afford some forged rods and pistons but I already have over $10k in mods into the car and I just want it to run again. I am sooooo tired of driving my 93 escort wagon.

Good call on the LM-1. Have you been pretty happy with its capabilities thus far?

Also, please be sure to let us know how the WRX 740's do. I've heard some people having some tuning issues with them, yet others with huge success. Although, none in an RS yet....

BTW, that 2K in stereo stuff could be your forged rods/pistons right there, and all it does is weight the car down....

I know, if i could sell it I would, but no one ever buy stereo stuff, especially not for what you paid for it. It's all got maybe 3 months use on it. I just added everything up and I actually came out to $11,800 in mods. And It's not even fast yet.

Thumbs up

Drac9,
I scored the same sort of deal from Blake's in Erie this week. $275 including the crossmember.

How much would you want for that EJ22 NA block? I am thinking of doing some Frankenstein building while my EJ22T shortblock is out getting reworked...

If you still have it sitting around in a few weeks I may take you up on that offer. I'll let you know. And good luck on your build.

Oh yeah, must have missed that question. I do like the LM-1 a lot. For the money it's a great product. I dont like how large it is though. I have programmed the analog outputs though so I can have one for the Link+ and the other one runs to my Autometer a/f ratio gauge. It seems to be pretty accurate too.
