Default Gauging Interest: Aluminum 4-pot Calipers

Just finished fitting the Legacy with a prototype of the Racing Brake 4-pot Calipers for the Subies. Very impressive units so far. Haven't tested as far as performance etc but so far here's what we've found:

Aluminum Calipers
Weight: ~6lbs v. 11lbs for Subaru 4-pots
Wheel Fitment: 16x6.5" OEM Subaru WRX Rims fit w/o Issue
Pads: OEM Subaru WRX/300ZX 4-pot Pads (Readily Available)
Price Range: ~$575-$600 with Speed Bleeders and HP+ Pads

Wanted to see what kind of interest there is in them. They'll be Gold or Red, most likely Red. Let me know what kind of interest so I can get on Racing Brake to get these units produced and over here.

Thanks.

They look really hot, I'm in for a set when they come out. Red bling for me.

Just got back from Watkins Glen International Raceway. Did a full day of testing on the track with these calipers. So far they are as good or a hair better than the OEM Subaru 4-pot calipers. Also put on ~500 street miles driving the Legacy up there and back.

I really enjoyed the SUBARU 4 pots that I had on my '94 L swap. If these are at least as effective in stopping power, I would like to know more. Bump, to keep abreast of new developments...

I knew RB was coming out with new calipers... what I didn't know was that they were going to be lightweight! ARrggg... ah well, RB rotors have not failed me in the least so I know these will be sick.

Mike, I might be interested as well. Do they get rid of the sloppy OEM 2 pot calipers? Is black caliper an possible future option too? Any pics?

I should have pics up shortly of the protype/test model. Currently they will likely be red/black. Thinking of trying to get em in black with silver writing a little less bling and will hide the brake dust better, what do you think?

Silver on black is cool, but I'd prefer gold. But I don't think that's an option anymore.

Yup just add wrx sized rotors, also pads as well. We'll likely be selling these units as a package including: Pads, Rotors, Calipers, SS Lines, with or without install. Just trying to gauge the interest before we have RB go ahead and start producing them.

Yah we were pleasantly suprised when we were able to fit up the '02 OBS rims and the stock WRX rims to em.

Black with silver writing sounds cool but I am still curious about pedal feel. Does it get rid of the sloppy WRX OEM brake feel?

That might have a bit to do with the brake master cylinder- it's a 2 stager on the WRX if I'm not mistaken.

Yup what Cirrus said, it will help due to less flex however the 2 stage booster and flex of the booster on the firewall is more of an issue than the calipers themselves. Advantages are smoother braking due to an even clamping force since there are 2 pistons on both sides, as well as less expensive pad replacement and easier pad replacement especially if you track your car...

I would def be interested in these in the spring time, I have a question though, how do they sound, is there alot of squeaking, I heard from a couple people that aftermarket brakes squeak alot more than oem, just curious don't even know if this is a true fact just something I heard. Also are these just front brakes or will there be a package with front and rears?

Racing Brake offers front and rear rotors and pads, currently they are looking at bringing the 4-pot front calipers first and maybe rears afterward since the rear doesn't do nearly as much braking as the fronts. The squeeling is generally a result of the pad material not the calipers. We will be offering HP+ which gives the best braking for a streetable pad, with the most dust and most squeel, most stopping power. HPS which is low dust, low squeel, med-stopping. You could also get OEM 4-pot Subaru pads as well which would give you low dust, low noise, lowest stopping power. All a tradeoff basically.

are these a closed system (subaru 4-pot) or open system (like Perrin you have to rebuilt every year). Do you know what I'm talking about.
