...and from what I've read, the stock endlinks are constructed with plastic. If anything, you may have to replace them sooner than later with a bigger bar installed. It also mentions it in another forum here, Post #3: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ade+of+plastic

Polyurethane would increase stiffness making it easier to overstess as compared to the stock rubber bushings

Mine sure looked and felt like steel. Maybe in 2006 they were plastic

One of the guys at the service department of my dealership told me that the new Impreza is based off the old legacy chassis and have read that it shares certain suspension components with it (previous gen). Is that the case and if so, is there any way to use older Legacy suspension components to improve performance? Just curious, don't really feel like actually mucking about with a good setup. Stiffer springs could have an interesting effect though.

Maybe the front suspension is similar, but the rear is more like the previous impreza

Hi Everyone,

New Subaru owner here. 2013 Sport Premium.

I was wondering if you guys can help me out with a question about the headlights. I'm kind of disappointed they didn't go with projectors since I heard they did prior to 2012. Seems strange.

But anyway, I'd like to "upgrade" my bulbs. I don't have the funds to retrofit anything right now, but is there a top end brand that people use to replace their bulbs for brighter light if they don't have HIDs?

I did some quick Googling and I read something about HIRs?

I'd like to change the "eyebrow" piece to a brighter white and I'd like to change the low beam bulbs as well. If you can direct me to what the "best" option is (if there even is one), that would be great. Thanks in advance!

As far as headlights go, you can install HIDs without retrofitting, but they won't be quite as focused as an HID with a retrofitted projector.

Also, the eyebrow lights can be changed out for LEDs but I can't really seem to reach mine, as it's supersuper far in the corner.

Cheap upgrade is the H11 to H9 mod. I did it and the headlights are a lot brighter.

so you are asking what wheel you can use that will fit the 205/50/17 tire? safely the 17 x 7.5 +48 width. retarded hella flushly 17X9 + 60? (not recommended)

The stock lights on my 2012 are the best of any car I've ever had. Does the H9 modification change the beam pattern at all?

I see the bulb does not have its own glare cap, this could be problematic for other drivers on the road if the housing does not have one itself. But I think the Impreza does have one.

I also see that they don't last as long. How much shorter is the life?

Would you need to upgrade the wiring to support the higher wattage?

Non PZEV here, I picked up mines on Valentine's Day last year and I mentioned in one of these threads it sounded raggedy on startup. I wouldn't say it sounds much better almost a year later as I've gotten used to it. It runs smooth after startup though.

Isn't the +48 the offset? How about a 17x8...is that pushing it towards hella flush? lol

H11 and H9 are the same bulbs save for a plastic tab inside the connector that you need to file down in order for it (H9) to fit in our headlights.

This thread will give you a lot more info

the "+48" is the offset. 7.5 with a +48 would be an acceptable offset. but a 9 inch wheel with a +48 offset would require modification like rolling fenders and a pull. so if you wanted to run a 9 inch wheel for some reason, you need about a 60 mm offset.

8 inches with a 205mm tire is pushing it. not impossible but definitely not recommended. i will not be responsible for your choice of action. having said that, 205 on a 8 inch rim is not the worst i have seem. and there are people running a similar set for a while. I think it is a big stretch but cornering and ride comfort will be decreased.

I think I'm going to try this out. And the HIR 9011 for the high beams.

Here's a question - If I wire driving lights to turn on with the high beams, will they also run at low voltage with the DRL's? Obviously, I wouldn't want this.

Well 7.5 should be good enough. I was considering going 18 (obviously with appropriate tires), but honestly I was thinking that maybe a lighter wheel would actually increase performance a lot more than a larger one. How much performance can be gained by going with a ~15lb set of wheels and losing however many pounds at each wheel compared to stock?

Well it depends on what matters most to you performance vs a smooth or harsher ride. Depends on how much lighter you go too. What you're referring to is called unsprung weight and while it can improve fuel economy slightly and "performance" it can also effect how the car handles in an adverse way as well if you go too extreme. Generally speaking, unless I'm using a vehicle for something other than daily driving, I tend to leave things like these alone because it may be a trade off I'm not willing to expect. A jeep on the other hand that you don't care about how it rides or fuel economy, knowing you'll be using it for off road applications, is a different story.

If the performance you're looking for is speed related then you're wasting your time. If the performance you're looking for is handling related, you're better off finding a suspension mod that won't have as many adverse affects and still have performance gains.

The low beams have a cap, I have installed h9's (standard clear glass Sylvania). There is more glare, there is also double the light output. The rated life is 500 hours, which if you do the math is still years unless you drive hours per day at night. I do an average of 1hr if night during per day now, so even with that I will still get 2 years out of bulbs that cost me 11/set
