Default Aftermarket TMIC or FMIC

Why would anyone buy a larger TMIC when they can just buy a FMIC for 300-400ish more dollars?

FMIC requires the possibility of cutting your bumper

Some people like to be more "sleeper" and not have a FMIC

FMIC = routing and piping (which means you have to finnagle shiz to get everything to fit)

If running higher boost applications you run the risk of having the IC pipe blow apart (if you use shotty worm clamps or crap silicone couplers).

Not sure if this happens in the Subaru world, but a lot of the time the FMIC core blocks a good amount of airflow to the radiator.

people will but bigger top mounts for more of a sleeper look, i plan on getting a top mount instead of frount mount for my wagon. it attracts less unwanted attention, and $300-$400 is alot of money

There is no need for or benefit from a FMIC on smaller turbos.

I personally went with the TurboXS TMIC because I wanted a proven, quality product with stock-ish boost-response and better than OEM heat dissipation. The Spearco TMIC is the largest available I believe, though I didn't think I would benefit from it on my setup. When I get to the place where I'm bolting in a built motor and a GT3788, obviously I will be doing the work to get a FMIC in place. For now though, a FMIC would do nothing to benefit my Evo III 16G setup.

Some people including myself disagree. Guess you never felt the difference between a car with a tmic and a car with a fmic in 100 degree weather.

OMFG another TMIC vs FMIC debate. Just what we need.

The Database, hate to be that guy but, most of your threads posted in General Community should be going to Newbies & FAQs.

I have never felt the difference, as I don't and never will have a FMIC... BUT, I HAVE felt the difference between the stock STi TMIC and a stock STi TMIC that has...
1; improved airflow through it because of lower under hood air pressure.
2; improved efficiency because of water sprayer.
3; improved heat resistance with extra heat shielding.

And the difference with these things done to the car is very noticeable. My car now rips just as good on the hot days as on the cool days.

LAG, have a look at some of the dynocharts here
http://surgeline.cobbtuning.com/dyno/index.php
you will notice the fimics have considerably more lag even when tuned by tim at surgline

Durability is the main reason I went with top mount over front mount. If you're just speaking performance, a front mount will be better in almost every way, even with a stock turbo. If I weren't constantly packing the front of my car with snow, mud, cones, and small children, I probably would have gotten a front mount instead of my Process West.
