Default Best way to clean an engine?

Not the entire thing inside and out, just the visible parts. I have an RB20 motor out of a clip that I want looking a little better.

I personally use Castrol Super Cleaner. Spray on wait 5 minutes, spray again and attack with a nylon brush. Be sure you wear crappy clothes when doing this. I think the rest of the planet uses Simple Green though. Castrol OWNZ Simple Green, but no one knows this but me I think. Rinse, lather, repeat as necessary.

yeah i think the castrol stuff is a stronger solvent. The simple green automotive degreaser is just less scary to the average joe.

Simple Green cleans everything, including heavy gunk/grease/debris deposits, without using any mechanical agitation, aka nylon brush.

I got some knockoff super degreaser and Simple Green. Working ok. Kinda tough to get 14 years worth of dirt and grime off in one sitting.

There was a thread about Simple Green. (Try searching on "engine simple green".) It turns out that Simple Green is corrosive to aluminum and is banned from military installation to avoid accidental usage on aluminum milatary gear (like jet fighters ).

Try orange cleaner????

If you have a truck to put it in the back of, you can take it to a car wash and give it the high-pressure treatment.
