Just got my car back yesterday after three weeks so far so good, feels like a brand new clutch pedal after the reweld/reinforcement. Very happy, let's see if it holds up over time.

Stop talking about it and do it. Everyone in here talking about how dissapointed they are with Subaru still had theirs. If you all stop being vaginas about it and stop buying the cars maybe they will get th point. Put up or shut up. This place is full of whiny bitches.

So everyday you're spending time reading 'stories' (or half of the story anyway) on an Internet forum and letting that determine how much you like your car? Seriously? And what problems are you having...other than not going out, driving and enjoying it? Wowzer's...in-freakin-credible. Please trade it in? I'm sure there's a car company and Internet peeps that would welcome you. And they'll be glad you aren't driving....

I love my Subaru, both of them! I own an 09 WRX and a 13 Crosstrek. They make great cars that are reliable. Unfortunately, they have some small issues but hopefully those are all getting fixed like rideboardr above!

The bulk head and firewalls on WRXs have been determined , by third party engineers, to be way to thin, if this happens to the average person , weld breaks, out of warranty, even the nicest shop owner will charge a minimum of 1100, if they need to take the dash out. This is absurd. I am personally blaming this failure on 2 clutches and a stock gearbox. I know plenty of untouched, unmolested WRXs that this happened to, but covered under warranty, NO warranty and your S.O.L. and 11-13s are not safe from this either. My advice, just get an STI.

Hmm... My '09 STI's failed out of warranty but Subaru fixed it at no cost as they should.

So...

It makes a clicking noise when you depress the clutch and you can feel the brake pedal shift laterally at the same time.

I've had the squeaky clutch pedal on my 08 WRX since 10k miles. It would appear off and on throughout the years. I've also had 2 throwout bearings go bad on me at 15k and 30k. Clutch went out at 65k. Soon after, the squeak turned into a crunch and the clutch pedal felt like pudding and started hitting the back of the well. I contacted Subaru and explained my situation and past service history. I'm not going to say it was easy but Subaru offered a good faith repair and took care of the firewall welding. Even with what I've been through with this car since having it when it was brand new, I still enjoy my car and still respect Subaru. This is definitely a serious safety issue because I personally believe I hit the end of the firewall welds and would have been in trouble if I was on a freeway. Glad that didn't happen. I hope Subaru starts taking care of their customers as they took care of some of us who posted in this thread.

Are Sti's free from this issue? If so, I wonder why? Do they have more welds or a master cylinder brace that WRX's don't have?

STIs are also susceptible to the issue. There are several complaints on iwsti.com.

For anyone who actually reads any posts above their own it applies to all Subarus irrespective of any lawsuit.

i guess ill consider myself lucky. no noises/creaking. no unusual play in the clutch or brake pedal.

2010 WRX
currently 104,xxx miles
GS brake master cylinder brace since 33,000mi
went stage 2 @ 84,000mi (still on stock clutch)
just rebuilt the motor and installed with a Exedy Stage 1 clutch. now pro-tuned with 300hp/360trq.

I told them (the dealership) that it was the welds and they wouldn't believe me. Told me they have to replace the whole clutch assembly.

Did you check the welds to show them? HondaSlayer or RexyGirl or one of the other dealer people can answer this, but I'm pretty sure the dealer has to see it broken or they won't get paid for the job?

Just an FYI. There are only 2 welds holding everything together where the breaks are occurring.

Part of the issue (and I'm not saying his issue) is that most people hear a squeak and assume their welds are busted. I can only assume that if the tech is recommending a clutch because he diag'd it.
