Looking at two Toyo tires - Versado LX or Extensa HP
I have a 2009 OBS with standard 205-50-17 tires...
I am getting a great deal at my local tire shop on two different Toyo tires: Versado LX or Extensa HP I know or rather assume these are two 'bi-polar' choices? I live in Connecticut so I do want an all season tire, and most of the choices in this 'performance' size is that performance based it seems? Thing is the Extensa's are almost $200 less and I think they might be better at rolling resistance (ie better mpg) and I do drive on some nice twisty back-roads on my daily drive to work and they may be better for that... ... that being said I would spend the extra dough for the Versado tires BUT not sure? Any other fellow Subarudrivers try either of these tires? thanks in advance, John

I imagine it's going to be hard to find reviews on either of those here, but we'll see what comes up.
What is a "great deal"? I have to question how "great" one of the deals is, seeing as searching online I find the price difference between the two tires in that size is about $20. 4 x $20 does not add up to a $200 difference. Based on the description of the two tires it seems like the Extensas would be the better performing tires. The description of the Versados makes it sound like they're cushy luxury/sport tires. The Versado has a higher treadwear rating, so it should last longer (and longer life typically implies harder rubber compound which would probably mean lower rolling resistance, but that's kind of a SWAG). Toyo certainly makes good tires, but I'm always wary of spending hundreds of dollars on tires that are somewhat unknown. Pat Olsen |
