have you been getting a lot of boost surge? or what exactly does your friend notice about the turbo?

My tuner instinctively knew that my turbo was on its way out. He said it just wasn't making the power it should at the boost and it wasn't spooling as fast as it should also. The smoking/oil burning/shaft play also gave hints. The easiest thing I imagine would be to check for shaft play if you are getting oil smoke in the exhaust.
