Talking swapped car rebuild

i had a 95 L with a V4 STi swap in it previously. i got the car back, but wanna go the 257 route now....

whats the most solid build? i was perusing the G thread here and seeing ppl steered towards the EJ20K STi heads(which i happen to have) for the 257.

is this the best route for durability?

im rebuilding the STi heads for longevity. the swap has a SYMS tuned(in japan) ECU currently, and i was wondering about it managing the 2.5 liters of displacement. im thinking it may be able to... but lets see what you think?

not really a good idea
it would be about the same price or more than as a salvage ej257+ecu

you will need
rebuild parts (oil pump/water pump/idlers/belts/gaskets(some of which are hard to find) figure $500 minimum
em- vipec is the best thing out there right now 1800 +tune 6-750
injectors datchworks +collars $500
sti short block $1900

and you still haven't dealt with your fubar harness ... looking at the excel sheet the 1.8 and ej20k have a grand total of .. wait for it --->0<--- pins in common

i also wouldn't mess with the heads if they are ok
valves are VERY VERY VERY expensive

1.8 harness? OBS is a 2.2, which still may not have anything in common! (i should specify theres nothing 1.8l left afaik)

so the JDM ECU won't cut it for running the 257, period? i was contemplating if the harness is ok, just swap the blocks. but rewiring will steer me away most likely.

i saw the latest posts OEM with valve prices, and you're 100% correct! im just weighin all options before i do anything.

so you suggest a 257 with STi ECU. what do i do for a harness that'll be somewhat easy and potentially use parts i already have. should i look at making my own harness completely if the JDM is shot? any help is good for progress right now

i know this sounds ghetto, but i gotta do it low budget in a way! (not rip the interior out ghetto)

since it's a 95 i don't have to worry about pluggin in at emissions. just the idle sniff test!

jdm tuned by mines ecu (which is why its blow up) will not work with a 257 block period.

nothing harness wise is easy with Subarus ... get a sti harness .. hopefully an 04 w/o the immobilizer .. or our will need the immobilizer parts too

low budget would be a rebuild for ~500-750
or buy the forester engine from jhot and move the .4 accessorizes over
