07-06 2.5i sri recommendation
I'm looking for a sort ram intake for my 07 impreza 2.5i. I'm not looking for crazy power gain, an nothing crazy noise wise, just something that is a little better than stock. I a
Currently running stock box with k&n drop in and don't really like it much. Thanks for the help guys! |

OP, please don't run an SRI. Read the sticky at the top and make a hybrid intake if you really hate the stock intake that much. Oh and get rid of that k&n drop in!(and most likely clean your MAF too - I ran one for a little and will never again..my MAF had some oil on it which i highly suspect is from the k&n filter.) Tony ive read threw and i find that ijen and cosmo, or hybrid are the best, what would be the best for my money. I dont wana spend more than 150 on it but would perfer the highest quality i could get. I dont wana piece together my car like a civic...

Ok sorry guys I was reading the wrong thread, after reading it I have decided to go hybrid, with a aem dry flow drop in filter and a random( cheapest) eBay piping. What do you guys think of this set up?

Oh and before I post another post what do you guys think of headers? I don't want to spend over 300 and want to get something I can use the stock car. Do you think I can get a good header for that? Any brands you guys would recommend ?

Check eBay for 02-05 headers, get either a Supers high flow-cat (HFC) or a Stromung HFC, then any OEM or aftermarket 02-05 catback exhaust and that will give you some nice flow and the boxer rumble I assume you are looking for.
Check the classifieds here and on RS25.com for good deals on any of the items above. |

It'll be better flow than his stock headers, cat, and exhaust (much better with a Stromung exhaust as well). I never said they wouldn't crack. If he coats them and wraps them with exhaust wrrap he can avoid cracking but you get what you pay for. Obviously eBay isn't the best place to get headers but if he wanted power he should have got a WRX.

From what I've read, any aftermarket headers that aren't OEM are going to have better flow than stock, whether its Borlas, Borla reps, Rallisport Racing, etc.
With headers, a high-flow cat, and either an aftermarket Stromung exhaust or an OEM 02-05 WRX exhaust his exhaust will flow better than stock. Not going to create a whole lot more power, if any, since EL headers have more power than UEL, but it will be better than his stock headers and exhaust he has. Again, from what I've read. If I am wrong, please correct me so that both the OP and I do not damage our cars by modifying them, but from what I have read on here and on RS25.com, that kind of setup will flow better than stock. |

I'd suggest against going with the older style layout (02-05) the newer was more efficient. The older is less cost effective if your looking for the rumble, just my opinion buying the Rallisport headers and getting a new muffler would be your best bet. No reason to spend an extra $200-500
The power gained from an aftermarket exhaust will be minimal if any as the uel design is inefficient |

If he's really looking for performance then yeah he should definitely go with Rallisport's headers, but personally I can't justify almost $600 for a set of headers that won't give me a serious power increase. I would rather get the rumble then look for performance upgrades elsewhere (i.e. brakes, suspensions, handling).

Like I said I want a somewhat cheaper header, maybe the 300 range but still something quality if I have to pay more that's fine, high flow cat is fine as long as it won't throw any codes and maybe keep stock piping and get a wrx muffler, what do you guy think of this set up, not looking for crazy go gain just a little and not too loud just a little deeper than it is now!

Cheap n quality don't mix. As far as exhaust setups check out youtube to get a general idea. It doesn't sound 100% the same but its good enough. That will help u decide what sounds best to u. Also keep ur piping at 2.25in no more then 2.5in. If you just want a little more driveability get an open source tune for a better throttle response.(get in contact with STIMikey). You'll need a laptop n a tactrix cable or a generic one for a cheaper route.

You know what I mean I don't wana spend top of the line money but want some what of quality. Do you think I should get aftermarket exhaust or is the wrx one ok? Also I have a 07 should I still get an 05 header? Is there any difference between the two fitment wise or just price? Thanks for all the help guys!

I picked up a CNT equal length header with HFC and OBX catback this summer and am really happy with it. I have not yet put it on the dyno so I have no hard evidence, but it seems to pull a little harder in the mid range. No huge gains are to be made with just an exhaust, but it will put you on the path to better gains with future mods such as intake, cams, port polish, etc. I spent about seven hundred bucks on the whole thing. My stock catback was kaput and this was my primary motivation. IF YOU DECIDE TO GO WITH ANY HEADERS FOR THE PREVIOUS GEN YOU WILL HAVE TO MODIFY OR REPLACE YOUR EXISTING CATBACK IN ORDER TO FIT.
I cant comment on exactly what replacing the headers alone will do for you, but staying EL as opposed to going with UEL should retain the low end torque you have currently, although it might shift the peak a little up in the RPM range if you get larger diameter piping. EL headers are designed to maximize flow, and thus power and torque, at a certain RPM range, and each are tuned slightly differently. This is due to the exhaust pulses being timed just right to aid in the removal of exhaust from the cylinders. This peak is also shifted depending on the sizing of the rest of your exhaust, and probably some other factors I am not aware of. UEL's will give you more power in the upper limits of your RPM range, due to the increased size of the pipe and resulting increase in flow, but you lose the benefit of the exhaust pulses. Many people here love the sound of the UEL's, and this is why they go with them. I personally think this is silly, but I am in the minority it seems. In my opinion, the EL's sound just fine, and having been a Honda guy for years I can definitively say that the sound is very different. I appreciate the sound of the UEL's, and it definitely is distinctive and cool, but in my opinion power, even just a little more, is more important than a little cooler sound. As mentioned, in order to get headers you have two main options, one would be to get headers that are bolt on which will be pricy (I only know of rallisport and maybe moore?) And be able to keep your stock cat pipe section, your second more time consuming costly and headache (if going uel) from personal experience would be switching back to the old style (02-05) if you do choose to go this route, you will need borla uel headers(replicas which are a hit or miss not worth it to me) possibly an 02 extension, an 02-05 style cat pipe section and if you choose to go with a wrx cat back you will need the flange rotated to mate up, this second way will have exceeded the price of the rallisport header.
As far as getting a cel from the rsr header.. mines always on (p0420) from it though you can get other versions of it that will less likely set it off and my ecu seems to be extra sensitive |
