Because they can and it is selling?
Only because the 14 hadn't been rolled out yet. As someone looking for basic commuter transportation the XV "upgrades" don't matter much.

I'm now going to wait a few more months and wait for the XVs to decay on the lots up here while the Forester makes a killing in sales.

Seriously?
I thought it was 3in longer, but yes the 2012 just barely fits with the front bumper touching the wall and the garage door just barely missing the rear bumper. It's probably an unusual situation but I'm sure there are plenty of people who will buy the xv because they just prefer a smaller car.

Some people just plain don't want a SUV.

I'm pretty much of this camp. Had a sporty Forester, liked it, but would much prefer a sporty Crosstrek.

I agree, there is not a lot of difference when you compare major items. For me, if I had to choose between a 6MT XV or F2.5i, I would choose the 2.5i, even though I do like the looks and style of the XV. I guess it only benefits the consumer to have choices. I think it's time to upgrade the XV with the diesel

Have a good friend that has a 1999 model Forester that barely fits into the garage (what I call a Model "T" garage circa 1930's). The new models are too tall, too wide, and too long to fit in his garage. The 2012 Impreza and XV; however fit - just real close on the length.

Agree with this also. I like ground clearance and always wanted an Outback sedan all the way back to the SUS. Didn't want a "wagon". The Crosstrek will do fine even with the new Forester.

Stigma of "station wagon" too much for your manhood?

Sorry, that statement was for when the SUS came out. You know, 15 years ago. I could have one now no problem.

If the XV had the 2.5, I would go buy one today. Regardless of what the EPA ratings are, according to what I am seeing on Fuelly the XV only gets 1mpg more on average than the Outback. That is proof positive that the XV is under motored.

Agreed. Smaller engine and about the same MPG. At that, the Forester 2.5i has .5L more, and gets 30 more HP/TQ, with a marginal decrease in MPG.

Don't get me wrong, I still like the XV and the idea about it. But the price doesn't match what it is... it's overpriced.

It gets about 28 realistically, which is what the larger, more powerful Outback gets. With the lack of power you have to work harder to get the new Impreza / XV up to speed, using more fuel. The 2.0 is a dud IMHO.

I know I have serious buyers remorse about my 2012.

How did you not know that with those numbers on paper before you signed at the bottom of that piece of paper?

Well the EPA rating is 27/36, I assumed around 30 based on most ratings, fuelly and at the time my 04, rated at 23/27 was getting around 27, it was natural to assume something that claimed nearly 10 MPG better would net me better MPG than what I was driving. I was wrong.
Now I'm waiting on the CX-5 diesel or 2014 Jetta Wagon TDi AWD to replace my 2012 and my wife's 04 Forester.

It will be interesting to see what the real world results for the Forester are. It seems like maybe the CVT tests well but isn't so great in the real world.

Anything will be better than my wife's 17 mpg from the 2007 dodge grand caravan 3.8l. Looking forward to a 2014 Forester Limited.

Seriously though. It's gotta be geographical. We get nothing but praises from our customers who are very happy with their MPG. Not saying everyone of them are, but a lot are. If there is someone who isn't happy, they sure aren't letting us know.

You're a salesman. Who complains to a salesman about their purchase afterwards? The only way I see that happening is if they come back wanting to trade it in for another vehicle or a different color.

I get 20.1 MPG average in my 2012 Subaru Forester XT and I floor it when I want. I redline it too.

I'm curious how well the CVT is going to be in regards to MPG's with my driving habits.

Wait. You DO understand Subaru buyers, don't you? I mean in general. Not NASIOCers.

Sorry. I just have to at that.

I see. So all of your customers think of you as their maiden aunt. That's interesting. I took you more as a masculine salesman who was a biased Subaru diehard fanboi. I guess that makes you both now.

I hate the way they packaged the trims.

Can't get HIDs in the touring without eyesight and nav?

The biggest complaints I have are: No standard push-button start on Limited/Touring trims and no paddle shifters on 2.5L model. Aside from that, my disappointments are fairly sparse...
