Just looked it up and it says 20w amp. Would this be loud and clear enough for a car with a loud exhaust? Is it comparable to most aftermarket radios as far as sound? I assume it would need a separate amp to really be clear?

This is what would hold me back. The stock stereo is under powered and makes the audio sound like crap. I upgraded to a HU that is 50w x 4 and its MUCH better. I would be afraid the parrot is under powered but I'm curious to see what the OP thinks of the audio quality with this.

The sound quality is actually very good for a box of that size since it uses T amps. I find that it is loud enough for my needs and is louder and cleaner sounding then that atrocity of a head uint it replaced (stock). |

I may add a DAC w/ OTG cable and connect that to the Parrot Aux In as a next step. Thats why I left back of the DIN housing empty. |

Wow, looks really clean man. I really wanna do this to my 13 WRX, but I want it to be more accessible, to where I can take it out whenever I want but have it easily plugged in etc. Exactly like this.. ... but still retain all steering wheel functions bluetooth etc. All in all, about how much did you spend?

This is really beautiful, well done...
The reason I probably would never do this is because you have such a limited amount of input sources. I'm assuming you lose terrestrial radio, obviouslyno CD or aux in but I'm thinking you could run a usb otg cable if you wanted quick usb access. iheart radio, tunein and Pandora etc would probably get you by ok i guess |

I was primarily listening to music in my car using phone apps anyhow. Spotify, XM streaming and podcasts is all I ever listened to. I went over a year without listening to FM in my car so I feel like my options are better now with this setup then using my phone. Mostly it was to get built in NAV without paying through the nose for kenwood with garmin nav or settling for really ****ty maps. All the audio stuff just made the switch from my phone to the tablet. Everyone has different needs, it just happens to work for me. |

I'd use an aftermarket amp and a USB DAC I think. One of the fancy new android ones that charge and give sound. Have those nor been released?

Came across this just now. It would be nice to do it but have it look better.
http://www.mp3car.com/android-tablet...dvd-drive.html Also where do you have the Parrot display mounted? Last edited by Ish9; 01-25-2013 at 04:08 AM. |

Wow man, top notch work, I even signed up just to say so. I also prefer it over the Celica build because it allows you to pop the tablet out every now and again. I've already started looking for a way to adapt the same style 2007 Imp.
Had a question regarding the Parrot system though. It functions as a low level amp then into the car's existing audio (which isn't rocket science) but in that connection to the car speakers, do you think it's manageable to route it to a real after market "WUB WUB" style amp? I'm purely asking because I haven't worked with the unit at all so I'm just not sure how it jumps into the existing wiring harness. I'm also asking because I got my Impreza for a steal and the dealership didn't know about all the aftermarket stuff installed - both under the hood and inside the car. For example, all wiring was left in place for an amp, sub, and to route after market speakers (which are still there) into the amp. Last question would be just an inquiry of how you're controlling things like "Next - Play - Pause - Back". Do you get the external module to control that or are you doing everything from the tablet? I'm looking at beefing up to one of the Parrot modules and integrating the little display that can pair with two devices at the same time so I could pair my phone for calls and the N7 for music (which yours should be capable of doing as well unless there are various revisions to the MKi 9100). Again, great work man. Out of this world. |

Very clean install. I'm doing the exact same thing in my car, so I can appreciate the work involved. Do you mind answering some questions I have?
-How are you handling heat? Androids shutdown when the internal lipo temp gets too high, which is quite easy to do with the car parked in the sun.... -How are you turning it on? Does the nexus 7 automatically turn on when power is applied? -Got some cute tasker scripts you want to share? -Are you using car mode or some sort of alternative app? -Any cool android in car apps you particularly like? -Did the anti-glare screen help significantly? -Plans for any cool peripherals? You can let your imagination go crazy with OTG and ioio. |

I don't understand why car manufactures don't just do this straight from the factory... multimedia/navigation/all in one units would make life so much easier... Love in the install! I wish I had the guts to pull out my navi and do this. WHA WHA.

May not be in your budget but for a super slick install and power amp integration check out the Audison bit One. Use it with a usb DAC and OTG cable. I control audio from the touch screen, you can from parrot remote but I find it finicky depending on the audio application currently playing. |
