Default What exactly is a slipping clutch?

I haven't experienced it yet, but I'd like to know exactly what characteristics a slipping clutch exhibits.

Drive at 55 mph in 5th gear. Let off the gas till the engine
is slowing the car, then stomp the throttle.

If your clutch is going, you will see/feel the engine rev up
past where it should for the mph you are running.

If your car is like mine, it will drop the revs back where
they belong after a second or two (you still have some
life left in the clutch).
