2013 WRX Gas Range?
What are you guys getting for gas mileage? My MPGs seem respectable (23-25). But I'm only getting 300 miles per fill up. That's awful compared to what this car is rated at... (320 city 420 highway). I have an all highway commute and I'm only getting 300 miles per tank? Does the car need to be broken in? Thoughts?

16.9 gallon tank....
You are putting in 12-13 gallons typically? 16.9 gallons at 25 mpg is 422.7 miles. That's the EPA estimate. |

I bet if you run the tank dry you can get close to the estimated numbers.

I think the gas gauge is just throwing me off and I'm overreacting. Thanks for all the responses.

It's not the gauge, the light comes on with at least two gallons remaining, I rarely manage to put more than 14.5 gallons in as I don't like driving with the light on. If you want to go further per tank, ignore the light.

I'm under 22mpg for the first 18k of owning a 2012 and I usually fill up around 290 when the light comes on, if all highway light will come on around 325 as I recall.

Um, so when you fill up and note the exact mileage, also note the gallons. Write them into a notebook. Reset the odometer and go on your way. After a few months, you'll have a much better idea of your mileage than "300 miles when I fill up".

You guys seriously drive until the light comes on?
Damn! Which reminds me. One time I commuted from RI to Milton, mass for work. My gas was real low, but I figured I can fill it up along the way. Plenty of gas stations around, and I was running late. Well, I made it to work and the light came on. When its time to go back home, I went to the gas station, and noticed I had forgotten my wallet at home! The only money I had in my pocket was $4.75. Luckily,I made it back home with only $4.75 of gas. Once I got home,my car wouldnt even start. I will always leave emergency money in the glove box from now on. And never pull that kind of **** again. |

to the OP, "Miles per Tank" is not a great metric, as everyone fills up "a tank" differently. Do what Jack said, keep a log (yes, there's an app for that) on how many miles on the tripmeter you do, and how many gallons you put in. It will be much more accurate than miles per tank. That said, even in my new XV, I'm only getting about "320 miles per tank". But I'm also only filling up ~12.5 gallons per fill up. |

Well, I used to think that and would run my tank down low all the time. In 2007 I was driving my '06 WRX wagon with fuel light on late at night and my car just died. No cell phone service. Flagged down a pickup truck and got a ride to a sketchball old house. Reminded me of the movie The Hills Have Eyes. Pretty much thought I was gonna die. Scary dude let me use his phone and I called a friend who came to rescue me after an awkward hour long wait watching him yell at his wife/daughter. Finally got the car towed and found out a fuel pump O-ring had failed at only 40K miles causing the car to die. So yeah, that's why I don't drive on reserve anymore.

I do zero highway miles. I let my car warmup in the morning for about 5-10 minutes. I get between 15-18. I go WOT here and there. I wasn't expecting great gas mileage but damn... Do the heavier, more aggressive tread Blizzak's have anything to do with it? (2013 WRX)
