Default Comcast can GTFO of my house

So after 8 years of service at the Copperfield house I'm fed up and sick of Comcast.

I sit here trying to upload a 1.5 gig video to espn and I still have an hour to go...when done it will be 4 hours to upload it.

They keep on pulling mob moves....slowing the upload/download speeds then offering faster options.

Nevermind the tv problems...having to have techs out twice or three times because they can't fix the problems....then they give us 'credits' because of the down time...which we never received....as a matter of fact...in the lastest bill we just got, cable went up $16/month...

Soooo now we're officially paying more for less performance.

So I'm assuming it's time to ditch the big C for U-verse...there was discussion about this over a year ago...any updated thoughts?

...typing this as espn is still waiting for the latest vid to upload.

......very .

sucks your having problems with comcast.

as far a uverse goes, i like it but am disappointed with the HD quality. when watching something like the WRC on hdnet the picture gets a bit fuzzy. it only does it when there is a whole lot of fast movement going on in the tv program. so, before anyone asks i have a samsung led tv....so it isnt the tv, like at&t thought it was.

it was pretty funny when i called to complain about it they sent a tech out the next day. as soon as the tech walks and sees the tv, he said was that it wasnt my tv. he then checkd the hdmi cables and replaced my box. as he was leaving he told me to just hang in there as the hd service will get better. i can live with it because i love everything else about it.

im saving about 30-40/month coming from directv and dsl. my interent is smoking fast.

shaun h

ps. you cant record 4 shows on one dvr like they advertise.....at least not in hd. you need 2 dvr's to record 4 shows on "one".

I got Directv, I swore I never would but I worked for them and my bill has really never been over 54 bucks with 2 movie channels for free (so far free movies for 6 months, lol) I guess it's not so bad if you pay attention to your bills seeing I heard so many horror stories.

I wanted the U-verse but they don't have it in my area

I personally think U-verse has the second best HD, with FIOS being the first. I've had DirecTV, TWC, U-verse, and now FIOS, and DirecTV and cable could never match fiber optics for picture quality.

Go with U-verse. It's more expensive, but the internet speeds are fantastic, the HD is good, and their customer service for U-verse customers is great. I just didn't have the option of getting it where I live now, so I went with FIOS instead.

And the reason some HD (like the WRC you're watching) gets blurry or pixelated is because it's not true HD, but instead it's regular television broadcast over an HD signal. Because it's being upconverted from a compressed standard definition signal, the picture is not going to be as good as something that is truly high definition and sent in uncompressed format to your box.

That's also another reason that DirecTV is never going to have as high quality HD as fiber optic systems. The transmission quality is lost in the broadcast down from the satellite, whereas it's maintained when it runs over static fiber optic or coax cables.

I wanted U-verse but it's not available in my area. Charter Cable costs and arm and a leg so I went with Direct TV and getting more for less then what cable was going to cost me.

The espn file is done uploading so I did a speed test via speedtest.net...

Download : 2.76 mb/s
Upload : 2.77 mb/s

...says I should be able to upload a 35mb video file in 2 min...which means I SHOULD have uploaded the 1.6 gig file in 91 min............not so much.

I uploaded to espn's business account on yousendit.com...unless it was their system that was lagging...

Comcast drops my internet completely probably 6-7 times per day, and the TV has been on the fritz also. I need to call them and cancel the phone service, I wanted to upgrade to HD but not if I can't get basic cable consistently grrrrr.

That and bundled service is up 40% since I moved. WTF??

I too hate Comcast. They can't even get my HD box to work by sending a signal correctly. I had them out a few times, and I told them don't even bother sending someone out to try to fix it.

That happens to mine also. I notice it, but considering that true HD service is still in its infancy, I'm not getting too upset about it yet. As the broadcasting ability gets better, i.e. the companies improve their hardware, infrastructure, and complete updating the lines in people's neighborhoods, the picture will improve with it.

At my old house where I had U-verse, they had just installed the latest fiber optic lines, so I had perfect picture. I miss that.

I don't really watch tv, but I switched to comcast to get their 16Mb HSI with local channel package for $30. That's $10 cheaper than DSL (my only other option). I ran a speed test while the tech was there and got 16 down, 3 up ... I haven't gotten anything higher than 5 down and .75 up since.

This FIOS, it intrigues me. My wife would love to have the food channel again.

After the usual Comcast unplug this, plug that, do this, do that, tech phone call, they're sending out a tech today.

Currently the standard profile is 2HD/2SD streams. You can record 4 shows at once with one STB (TotalHomeDVR), 2 HD and 2 SD.

You can check your profile in the STB configuration: Menu --> system settings ---> system resources.

It should say:
Live Programs: 2 SD / 2 HD
DVR Recordings: 2 SD / 2 HD
