it'll be powered by an Audi-sourced engine of some displacement and weigh slightly over 1,500 pounds. Price is expected to be in the $50,000 range.

I can't afford a Elise either though.

There in lies the problem.

What are the prices on the Ariel Atom and Caterham ? Same range?

I can afford the thing, but I can't fit in it.

Ariel Atom is around 35-40K IIRC, Caterham is similar.

Could just build your own (just takes alot longer, but it's alot cheaper).

here's the start as of two weeks ago (haven't taken a picture recently, it's a bit further along).

Or build from a kit (my dad's, his is much further along)

Brand makes a difference too. I personally prefer the looks of the Birkin kits, whose website has mysteriously disappeared from the intardweb

Just google for "Birkin S3"

Superformance (the guys that do Cobra/Daytona replicas) also make a Seven lookalike, or at least they used to. I saw one a few years ago at the Charlotte Auto Fair. I believe it was powered by a Mazda Miata engine.

Yeah, the Birkins look nice, I also like the look of the WCM Ultralite XR7.

That's great. I really want to build a Locost when I'm a bit older and more financially stable. Right now at 23 with all kinds of payments it's a bit out of my range. Plus I don't have the skill to do a ground up like you, I'd be going with the kit. Good luck.

What kind of powerplant are you using? Miata powered?

I love the concept of the Super7 kits, and I love the performance out of them... I just don't like the way they look... I wish someone would make a coupe/hardtop type kit car that's in the same performance/price range as a Super7 kit.

...maybe I should just build one of these:

So, it'll be slower, much slower, than an Atom (which also seats two people).

I didn't say the Atom wasn't a two-seater. Sorry my post wasn't more clear.

Why buy a replica GT40 when you can have the real thing?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $

and i think it would be fun to build something like that myself.

plus i think i would be scared to drive the original around town everyday for fear someone would hit it.

I can't find the info on their site anymore, but a few years ago I believe they were still building MkII GT's to original racing spec.
