Default Premium Gas Gone Bad at the pump?

I have been buying gas at Costco in Hillsboro and only put in premium. Got a bad batch of gas in the other day and my car stunk like rotten eggs. Thinking it was the cat converter.

Since the gas prices are so high right now. Im assuming that few people are buying premium for their cars and that gas sits in the tanks for a long time, thus collecting garbage and water. All the stations say that they use the finest water separators and filters, but my car thinks otherwise. So Im on regular gas with a low boost map. I cant trust premium to be quality gas anymore, just will add some Torco to boost the octane.

Is anyone else running into this now that the prices are through the roof?

People still buy the same amount of gas despite the price, so your logic that the stuff is "sitting" too long isn't likely.

Costco really moves a lotta fuel, so again I doubt this statement.

It is entirely possible that you got some bad gas, but that's most likely due to random occurance or the filter not doing a good enough job.

Chevron FTW!

Seriously, I would not even consider buying gas from Costco, or Fred Meyer...

i work at costco and know a thing or two about the gas stations so ill offer my input.

at my store at least, the gas station is crazy busy, both regular and premium, so if you came to the federal way costco gas sitting in the tanks for a long time simply does not happen.

as for water in the tanks, we all have a constant monitoring system that detects any amount of water inside the tanks, and will trigger alarms with anything above .25 inches of water, which is an amount ive been told would be VERY hard to get through the system, seeing as how the tanks are 80 inches tall, the pickup is an inch or two off the floor, and the filters are pretty good.

still, the possibility is out there, as i can only speak for my gas station and how we take care of it, not other costco's

The low boost map is running on the Access Port. PDX tuning did this map for me. The waste gate is pretty much open all the time. I only produce about 1 (14psi) bar of pressure. The hi boost map gives me roughly 1.5bar (21psi).

Takes some zip outta it but oh well. Doesn't save any more on gas mileage. The best way to save on mileage is keep out of the boost. Anything past 0 psi is sucking large amounts of gas.

+1

Demand elasticity of gasoline on average is usually around -.05 but can also get up to around .1 Either way, its pretty much totally inelastic unless gas prices go up like 100%

Yeah, I am missing something here too. Regardless of map or even just stock, the car is supposed to run premium right?
