Default I am looking to buy my first Digital SLR

So here is what I want it to do. Obviously take great photos. I want it to be user friendly. I like to take pictures of small objects at distance not to disturb them so I would probably need a tele photo lense with an image stabilizer. I also like canon for all my printing needs and all my point and shoot cameras are all Canon.

So here is what I thought about getting.

Rebel XTI body for $510
Canon 70-300mm F4-5.6 $550
and a sigma 28mm-70mm lense for $90

Can anyone offer me anything better for less or same price.

This is my budget. 1200

Don't buy a Canon 70-300 lens if you can help it. Get a Sigma for $200, you shouldn't be able to see a different if you're a beginner and use the remaining money for a case and tripod, plus polarizers.

thanks for the info. I already have a bag I do admit I need a tripod and I have zero clue what the polarizers would do for me.

Polarizers do two things. One, they protect your lens so you don't scratch it and two, they polarize. If you ever put on a pair of polarized glasses, you'll know what I mean - it removes glare and in high-sun environments just makes the pictures look a lot more appealing.

But in all honesty, buy a slightly cheaper lens and spend the extra money on accessories, they'll come in handy a lot more, imo.

I have 2 kids of my own so keep your comments to yourself if you don't have anything good to say. I want to take pictures of animals from upto 200 yards away and have them look like I was 2 ft away. And of ships going up and down the hudson river.

Thanks, I will get the Sigma macro lens. And look for polarized glass to go with it.
