I call bull. I have an EQL and it sounds more like a porsche.... with these engines you usually dont get that raspy tone unless you have a catback exhaust that accentuates it.

Xluben: I am also at the limits of my stock clutch. I held on at a 4th gear pass but with a rated 425-445wtq that occasionally drags would a 4 puck be enough or a 6 puck?

A 4 puck is more aggressive than a 6 puck. The STI has a bit larger clutch (with higher toque ratings), and you also have the option of the XT pressure plate (with higher clamping force than the HD). I would probably try the XT pressure plate, and a full face disk. I would think that would be enough, and it would be much more street friendly. After that I would swap the disc for a 6 puck if you need/want more, but that will be very grabby and difficult to drive. I wouldn't go with a 4 puck unless absolutely necessary.

Most people swear about that XT on the STI. Would be nice if us WRX owners could get it

That looks like a lot of work. Why did you choose to wrap the runners separately? I would think that wrapping the pairs together would retain heat better (less surface area, hot pipes next to each other, etc). When TopSpeed tested the Invidia headers they wrapped them in pairs, but I also see many people wrapping them separately, so I really don't know which is best. How much wrap did you use to do all that?

How much of the wrap is left? Can one roll do headers + uppipe + downpipe?

Nope. Not even close. I barely, barely had enough to do just the header with one 50'x2" roll and I basically wrapped it in a way that I would use the least wrap. You probably want two rolls to do all that and you could do more overlapping on the headers too.

I did it to avoid hot spots and it just makes more sense to me. I used the entire roll of Tomei's wrap. I believe its 50' long.

Huh, maybe wrapping the pipes together, like I did, actually uses more wrap. Do you have a thread for your wrapping? That would be a good place for those photos. I still don't really know which way is better, but I think they both work fine. Wrapping each pipe individually does look cooler.

EL headers definitely do not sound like a Honda. You can still pick out the boxer tone in it, it's just not as obvious. I will most definitely go to an EL header eventually. If price isn't a problem I'll be doing the Killer B unit for sure. If price plays into it too much it'll be the Tomei. From all the sound clips I've heard it seems like as long as there is a resonator and muffler with the EL header you'll usually get good sound. The only ones I've really not liked are unresonated exhausts.

I'm also anxious to see how this one sounds compared to what is on the car now.

No thread about the wrap just illustrating what it looks like. Not trying to thread jack. I agree both methods serve the intended purpose, but Im surprised you needed so much, literally one roll for me. Yours look really good, is that DEI titanium? I used that on my dp.

It sounds pretty Honda-ish to me. I guess you could say Evo or maybe even Porsche, but it doesn't sound rumbly any more. My exhaust does have a resonator, but it is a can style muffler, so it's pretty ricer-ish sounding.

Yes, it's DEI titanium. It was pretty awesome to work with. Nice and soft. Just enough stretch. Based on my calculations either method should take about the same amount (assuming the same amount of overlap). Was your role this size?

I'll be anxious to hear the sound clips then. All of the EL headers seem to sound slightly different front one another if you ask me. I've yet to hear a clip of the Killer B unit that I didn't like. Haven't heard many Perrin clips I did like. Definitely didn't like the APS either. Interested to see where this one falls.

I can tell you that whatever is in this car I want it!

Probably has a lot to do with the camera that was used to take the video.

BTW, this page seems to have become the random picture/video page...

Mine was 50' x 2 or 2.5

I wrapped mine together and not the individual runs. I agree with what you are thinking about retaining heat that way. It was also less wrap and less work in the end. Ideally, you are trying to retain the heat from the entire unit and not each individual pipe...so it just make sense to me to wrap them together.

With the single, I would imagine it would have more of a Honda sound than utilizing the dual exhaust setup. However, even those setups sound like a Honda to me under load with a EL header setup. There is no doubt that EL produces more power though.
