Correct Part# 04 Sedan - Cusco 3-way Adjustable Rear Sway bar
I had a terrible time getting my Cusco 3-way Adjustable Rear Sway bar for my 2004 WRX Sedan. I went through 2 vendors just to get the dang thing. MVPMotorsports.com threw me in a loop of sending pictures of my rear bar and a friends 2002 rear sway bar, emails back and forth, finally they figured it out, I was right and the sway bar they sent me was the wrong one for my 04. I finally got my refund back from MVPMotorsports.com thanx to the help of Adam at Z1 Performance who took the time to investigate this issue. End result of his investigation was in fact different part numbers. Adam over at Z1 Performance hooked me up, now even though he sent me the wrong bar at first (Second Sway bar from UPS), I was glad that he actually knew that the rear sway bar for the 04 series had a different part number where most vendors out there didn't have a clue, believe me I checked. So the second bar Adam is sending (Now the third sway bar from UPS) should be the right one, I’ll find out tonight. As for everybody out there that may decide to buy a Cusco 3-way Adjustable Rear Sway bar for there 2004 WRX, don't be fooled by the "Will fit 02+" crap, here are some part numbers that you'll need to know if you don't want to go through what I had to.
2002-03 WRX = 666311BJ22 2004 WRX = 669311BJ22 (for Rev C) Reason for the part number change is because Subaru redesigned the rear sway bar bushings for the 2004 wrx. Instead of the clamp overlapping and incasing the bushing like the 02-03, the 04 has a clamp that fits in a beveled surface of the bushing. Other Cusco info for the 04WRX: The Cusco Rear OS Strut tower brace for the 04 is the same as the 02-03, I’ve already installed it. And so far I’m getting word that the front Cusco Sway bar for the 04 is the same as the 02-03 model wrx, but...not 100% sure. Hope this helps somebody out there with an 2004 WRX Sedan, wish i had this info before going the Cusco route. pat3

wait, the bushings are part of the mounts holding the middle of the bar right? so it shouldn't affect the endlinks which are separate. i'm looking up endlinks from the different manufacturers and it looks like most of them are listed for 2004 compatibility.

Just wanted to let everybody know that my install is finally complete now. After getting the 669311BJ22 i stumbled upon a daunting problem. This new bar is 2 inches too long. Now you gotta wonder, 3rd time is suppose to be a charm, well in my case, it was more of the same story. The bar doesn't fit, found this out after i installed the thing. The bar is suppose to go inbetween each of the stock end links, well this bar, 1 side was on the inside and the other was on the outside dangerously close to the rear wheel. Now i sat there for a minute pondering my next move. Still in disbelieve, found out from my pal at Z1 motorsports...i got the STI bar instead. So for all of you guys out there the STI is in fact a bit wider than the WRX. So Adam sent me the original 666311BJ22 bar that started it all, but, but...i kept the sti bushings, which had the beveled top (if you look at your bushings on the 04 you'll understand), installed it this last saturday Nov 1st and the damn thing fits. Everything fits very nicely. I can't believe it, after 4 different bars, i finally have my rear cusco 3-way adjustable sway bar installed....so for me...the 4th time is a charm.
Moral of the story goes, if you have an 04+ WRX (not an STI) get the 666311BJ22 model number rear cusco swaybar with the new bushings that come off the 669311BJ22. How do you say? i haven't the foggiest...good luck though. And if you have the STI, get the 669311BJ22, it comes with all the correct parts and bushings. And remember, when installing Cusco parts, make sure to remind yourself that if at first you don't succeed, try 3 more times and you just might! pat3 |

If they order from us, we can send with the proper bushings, since both bars are in stock!

Crap, I put a deposit down for a 669311BJ22 at a local tuning shop for my 04 WRX. That's so stupid that Cusco doesn't know how to make a proper rear sway bar kit to fit the 2004 WRX!?!

I have a 2004 WRX sedan with a Cusco rear sway bar and GT-Spec solid endlinks. I ordered these parts from Metric Subaru Performance Tuning (http://www.mspt.net) and they did the install. No problems with fitment that I am aware of.

The SWAYBAR is the same. Only the bushings are different. I used a 2002 bar with 2004 STi bushings on my wagon. Worked perfectly.

Ok, to clear up any misscommunications here:
If you own a 2002-2003 WRX and want a Cusco rear sway bar, buy the part #666311BJ22. If you own a 2004 WRX (non STi), buy the 666311BJ22, but make sure the place selling it to you gives you the busings from the STi version (part #669311BJ22) If you own a 2004 STi, buy the part #669311BJ22. And again, we have them all instock! |

You'd think anyone selling anything for your car would have their $h!t figured out before they take your order! ...things like this make me just "wait" until I get an overwelhmingly positive review of any product I order. |

It is not complicated at all. Don't know why some folks are confused. I've had and worked on a 2002 and a 2004. The '02 and the 04 swaybars are 100% interchangeable. For 2004, SUBARU revised the swaybar bushings and brackets (the ones in the middle of the swaybar), but the swaybar is the same shape. You can use 2004 US STi bushings with your stock brackets if you're getting a 20mm bar.
In sum, the only difference between the 2002 and 2004 aftermarket rear sway bars on the WRX is the bushings and brackets. You'll need a 2002+ swaybar with 2004-specific bushings. 2002 bushings will not work. If a vendor messes up and sends you the wrong stuff, exchange only the BUSHINGS and keep the swaybar. It takes a while for aftermarket vendors to realize changes from model year to model year or even changes within a model year, which happens quite a bit with Subarus. That's why I use Subaru parts whenever possible. |
