Default 2012 Impreza "trunk" space

Can anyone tell me what the usable trunk space is in the hatch? I'm debating between the sedan and the hatch as I think I like the idea of being able to LOCK stuff into the car if I need to.

I suspect the specs for the car are from floor to roof behind the rear seat. But that would 1) cover the back window, and 2) not be stuff you could hide.

What can you put in the back of the hatch and still pull the tarp over it? And how would that compare to the sedan's trunk?

I know - boring (first) question here. Sorry!

Thanks!

Could have been the drive up 91 and 89 through Vermont which is pretty hilly, the weather which caused me to have the heat blasting most of the time, or the fact that I'm just getting used to driving it. Acceleration is much different then my 2000 civic with the VTech so I'm sure I'm causing lower gas mileage as well.

Rdizzle - I'm seeing some condensation in the headlights as well.

There's also a noticeable delay in changing gears from Reverse to Drive (CVT), anyone else seeing this? I'd say it takes a full 3 - 4 seconds to switch to Drive.

I bought the Limited w/o upgrading to Nav/GPS - Sound system is lacking. I expected to put in new speakers at some point anyway so it's not a huge concern to me but I do feel like it should sound better stock.

I'm going to have Subaru look at the transmission when I bring it in for the first oil change.
I took my Impreza down to the dealer about the headlight condensation and they said it was normal to have condensation in there since the headlights aren't sealed (there's supposed to be a breather tube on there). I'll go check them out once I install my HID kit in a week or two.

I don't notice any delay in shifting with the CVT so probably a good idea to get it to the dealer.

This site has ridiculous amounts of information including all the measurements that you're looking for: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/imprez...tml#dimensions

Why would blasting the heat affect mpg?

It wouldn't. In cars, heat is free except for the miniscule cost of running the blower fan motor...and I would argue that that cost is offset by the efficiency increase of providing another outlet for the engine's heat (the cabin).

If you use deftost I've been told that it uses your AC compressor. Other than that I would tend to agree

This is a true statement. In fact, the AC indicator may not illuminate under these conditions even though the compressor is running!

Never put your defogger/defroster on unless you are trying to defog or defrost the windshield. Aside from the mpg hit you're just wearing out your AC compressor.

Figured it's time I join this site. Probably won't be all that active, but this is a treasure trove of good info.

I just ordered a '12 Impreza Sport Premium, 5MT, Dark Gray Metallic, with the rear bumper applique.

Probably going to pick up a Cobb shift knob day 1, and I'll be looking at playing around with other ideas.

My other car is a Lotus Elise, and I've been looking for a while for a new daily driver. Needless to say I value driver involvement and handling. All the other cars I drove recently felt numb to me. The Subaru was so refreshing. The clutch is a bit too quick, but actually has some feel. And the shifter was great. Not exactly a great shifting feel, but it's a thousand times better than the Lotus.

If anyone gives you a hard time about your Subaru and you have a manual transmission, tell them it's far better than what's in a Lotus.

Default 2012 Remote Start National Backorder

I ordered a 2012 Impreza Sport Limited + Moonroff with Remote Start on 12/19/2011. I emailed the Dealer yesterday when I saw the car listed in their on-line inventory as "In-Transit". I asked when the car would be available and why a remote start was not listed as an option. The first response I received stated that the remote start (of the factory ordered car) would be installed in the port of delivery. Then the dealer emailed me the next day that there was a "National Backorder" of remote starters for 2012 Imprezas and do I want an afternarket remote starter installed. I already emailed Subaru of New England and will call tomorrow when they are open.

Has anyone else heard of a National Backorder of 2012 Impreza remote starts?

Backorders happen all the time. I had three things that were added after the purchase. The dealer just wrote up "we owe the customer [blank]" contract at the purchase

Default 2012 Remote Start National Backorder

Thanks for the prompt response and sound advice. I am going to ask for a factory remote start be included in the bill of sale/contract.

My cars live on a city street in the Massachusetts snow belt so a remote-start is a must.

I was wondering if anyone purchased an Impreza with a remote start after 12/19/2011 and were told of the backorder. Also, what is their estimated time frame for the backorder to be resolved (1,2,3 months)?

In addition to the customer service email portal I have tried calling Subaru customer service in NJ since 8:30 AM EST to inquire about the shortage, but the line is constantly busy. Has anyone contacted customer service by calling them at the number posted on-line (800) 728-2783?

Thanks again.

Good News! This Subie Noobie kept dialing the wrong number of SOA: (800) 782-2783 is the correct number.

Grant at SOA located my vehicle, identified the remote start part number (H001SFJ000), confirmed that none currently are in stock in the USA, but that multiple large orders are due to arrive throughout the month of February.

There is no back order or hold on remote starters for 2012 Imprezas!

Likely, I'll have the car and remote start arrive at the same time, or shortly thereafter.

For my Sport Premium OBP/DGM:

Delivery date 1/23
First tire puncture 1/24

Luckily, it was only a metal chip causing a slow leak - no need to dismount the tire or replace it. The leak was slow enough that I could drive the 20 minutes from the gas station near my office to the dealer without the TPMS light coming on, but the rim was practically on the ground after the car sat outside for two hours.

Considering that my last tire problem was a sidewall pinch requiring a $300 tire replacement, I'm considering myself lucky! I didn't even need the spare!

I just got the call an hour ago! My new 2012 arrived last night!

Order Date 11/06/2011
Pickup Date 01/26/2012 (hopefully!)

Sport Premium 5-speed
Dark Metallic Gray
Sport Mesh Grill
Body Side-moldings

Will also install the following when they arrive.
Rear spoiler (hatch)
Underspoiler
Strake kit
Areo splash gaurds.

I will try to post some pictures in a few days, I've seen very few pics of the sport mesh grill.

Slightly off-topic but what short throw shifter would you guys recommend? there seem to be a lot of different brands.

My only gripe with the car is i wish they would have kept the clear LED taillights from the last model. These big blocky square toyota echo red ones are fugly. Hopefully we'll see some aftermarket stuff soon.

Here she is. My first new car EVER. Been driving a 5-speed 4 banger, 100hp 4200Lb, '97 ranger since I was 15 (the last 8 years). It had 100,013 miles when I bought it for $3000 back in 2004 and now its stitting at 190k miles. I can't complain, it got me from A to B and only problem I ever had was to change the slave cylinder in the clutch.

However, this subaru feels like a mini-Farrari compared to that old truck.

Glad to hear you're loving it. I've got ~1700mi on my Sport Limited now, and I'm averaging just under 31 with mixed city/hwy. I saw close to 28 for the first 500 miles, and then it crept up after the engine started breaking in. I think you can expect some improvement later.

how guys how much larger does the interior feel compared to the 08-11 model? and what about build quality? Judging by the photos I see it looks much better and larger but I'd like to have an owners thoughts into consideration. My dad is looking to replace his current car and the new Impreza I brought up for him to consider.

I just upgraded my 5mt 2010 Outback Sport to the 5mt 2012 Sport Premium. In the week that I've had the car I have put about 1000 miles on it, and I've found it to be much more comfortable. It is quieter and smoother on the road. The visibility is better in every direction, including through the larger side mirrors. The seats are much more comfortable and supportive, and the telescoping steering wheel makes driving easier. A passenger in the back seat behind my driver's seat found it to be much more spacious (plenty of legroom with my seat set for my 5'9" height). Bluetooth connectivity is very convenient and has been working well once I got used to the way it works.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

My wife and I are l looking at the 2012 Impreza hatchback (manual), but the one thing that's holding me back are the power numbers. I realize this isn't a WRX and am not looking for those kind of numbers, but was hoping Subaru underestimated its 0-60time, cause 9.8sec is pretty slow in my books, and I'd like at least a little increase in speed from my 03 Sunfire, not a downgrade. Is there at least potential to add a few wheel HP with the basics, CAI, exhaust, etc?

Thanks! I know for sure he'll want the CVT in place of the 5mt. He's going to wait to see the '13 Civic as well since he hates the design of the current one. But hopefully he'll go for the Impreza.

a promised 36mpg is why HP is low.
i too would have liked more power, but not at the expense of mpg.

anyway, first post here.
right now i'm considering a sport premium/limited 5 door along with a prius.

this'll be the first car i buy on my own after previously owning a 95 legacy and a 01 camry.

looking forward to further analysis of the mileage.
also, can some of you post photos of your ice silver 5 doors?

Just picked up my new 2012 Impreza Sport Premium CVT today. My first Impreza, but fifth Subaru (all others have been Outbacks). I was amazed that the new Impreza has basically the same passenger compartment room as my 09 Outback wagon. Went into the dealer to buy a new Outback last week, saw this nice red Impreza Sport on the showroom floor, and ended up buying that instead!
