How do you replace the clockspring on a 04 sti?
I need to know how to replace the clock spring on my 04 sti that was in a front end collision and the bags went off. How do you disconnect the bag from the spring? There is not clips to do this. I've searched and all I can find is stuff thats from 02-03 bugeyes.
Also do I need to replace it if my horn/cruise control still work? thanks

The bag comes off from the rear. There are hex screws that hold it in place. The clock spring is a self contained assembly. Try a junk yard or an online dealer like Subarugenuineparts.com to get one as your local dealership will rape you.

Why are you removing the clock spring?
There are two small plugs- one for the horn, the other for the airbag. Once disconected it can be lifted out. Provided you already removed the airbag/wheel. Be sure not to let the cover pop off. Once the cable unwinds its near impossible to get back in porperly, I usually put a piece of tape over it to prevent this from happening. Hope that helps |

I cant get the air bag off unless I cut the wire. There is a plug that goes into the clock spring but it seems directly wired to the airbag.
Im removing it so i can put a new one in cause I heard you need to put one in if the bags explode. |

After you get the wheel off, you can slowly wiggle the clockspring assembly out from the back side. There should be two guide pins holding it in place. You should be able to get it out far enough to allow for the airbag to be unplugged.
That is how I did mine. Be cautious not to break anything though. Just remember, you cannnot hold anyone here responsible if you break it. I know this is going to sound reall crazy but your other option is to just look at a service manual. They are all online and can usually be had for free or for just a few bucks. |

I replaced the air bag and clock spring in my because it was in a accedent. I think my clock spring is bad because the cruise will not come on. Also i was told that you have to get a new air bag modual or have that one reprogrammed. I have to find the modual before i can send it out. Does any one know were its located? 06 legacy.
