Default Automobile names Audi R8 ‘Automobile of the Year’ - GM wins for Technology

Quote:
The Audi R8 has raked up many awards this year and now Automobile has named the Audi R8 the ‘2008 Automobile of the Year.’ Automobile says “The R8’s glass-encased, 420-hp, 4.2-liter V-8 engine has the sound of a traditional Italian supercar. Editors called it a great real-world sports car in the vein of the Porsche 911, but with the exotic presence of a Ferrari.”

Automobile also named the GM’s Two-Mode Hybrid system the ‘Technology of the Year.’ Editors called General Motors’ Two-Mode Hybrid System “the most significant gasoline-electric propulsion advancement since the original Toyota Prius.”

“Two-Mode blends the best attributes of internal combustion and battery-powered electric motors,” said Technical Editor Don Sherman. “Chevrolet Tahoes and GMC Yukons equipped with the technology can achieve 20 miles per gallon or more, which is equivalent to the capability of a four-cylinder mid-size sedan in city driving.”

No doubt that the R8 is a cool car, but I simply don't think $100+k cars should really be considered in these type of awards.

I've seen two R8's thus far in DC, wow, look good in person, but I'd still take a GT-R over it and save some cash.

Good job guys. It only took 3 to 4 posts to get the GTR and ZR1 comparison going again.

hehe, good luck finding one. My friend had one ordered in CO. He had this thing pre-ordered for about 1 year, number 5 on a local dealers the list. The dealer had two dealerships and had a list that vastly exceeded their ability to obtain the R8. Needless to say, my friend got screwed out of his pre-order and the dealer will not be getting him his R8. He was pissed. They told him he might be able to get one next year as a next year model. He told them to get bent.

I am trying to talk him into a GTR anyway now. He is thinking a GTR might be a better purchase anyway but only time will tell when they get them stateside.

Hmmm, I'll let him know. I think his beef is with the dealership, not Audi. But, I think he is liking the pre-stats coming out about the GTR, and it has AWD which is something he finds important. Thanks...

BTW, which TX dealership?

Seriously. Imagine a world where people just accepted the fact that some people like vettes, some people like twin scroll v6s and some people can't resist bringing them both up regardless of the topic
