See my comment about not wanting larger than 16" wheels =)

You might as well put my name on a H6 setup...it'll just be a week or so before I can order them, that's all.

I'm not going to bother buying 17in wheels + this setup. That amount of money can be better put towards other things. The RS is already 200lb lighter than the wrx...that already gives me a good stopping advantage, I just need a place for the heat to go. Most people I know that own WRX's already have 17in or larger wheels, but still have stock brakes...this is just perfect for them. Keeps the weight down, while vastly improving the brake setup.

The only thing that would make my day would be having someone say that these fit under the stock '00 RS wheels too =)

I'd love to know what the measurements are from the outside of the legacy caliper to the center of the wheel hub...I wanna know by just how much they don't fit...

No, as the 4-pots bolt right to the wheel hub assembly rather than a bracket, you can't stick a larger rotor under it. Designing an adapter bracket to fit that would also be near impossible.

An adapter bracket to move the stock WRX calipers out farther should be doable though...

ok, now I really confused. When I did the swap, the 4pots seemed to bolt on the exact same way the stock wrx calipers did. if you could make a bracket to move the stock caliper out, then why couldn't you bolt the 4pot to it.

The stock wrx calipers bolt to a caliper bracket...the 4-pots do not.

You could re-design the wrx caliper bracket to move the caliper out to allow clearance for a larger diameter rotor.

The 4-pots bolt directly to the hub assembly...there's no easy way to build an adapter to fit back there, move the 4-pots out and be stong enough to handle the stress on the system... It would probably be cheaper to just buy the legacy setup outright.

Geeky Tech Question: How much do the front 05 leg rotors weigh compared to the stock WRX front rotors?

I'm actually more interested in weighing them vs the STi brakes & the stoptech's, but throwing the wrx brake numbers in there would be nice as well...

If I get time tomorrow, perhaps I can look up the wrx part numbers and find weights.

There's a webpage out there with all the weights of most of the removable parts on a wrx.

That would work, but how much would redesigning the caliper bracket and getting one custom fabricated cost over just getting the '05 Legacy caliper and bracket? Seems like the former would be nearly cost prohibitive when you could just buy the Legacy stuff and be done with it.

Thus my comment on it probably being cheaper to just buy the legacy setup.

To change the wrx caliper bracket, you'd just have to redesign the mold for the bracket...the 4-pot bracket would have to be created from scratch.

Alrite I'm convinced that these are great! LOL! I guess you cant beat this setup if what you say is true about the stopping power. And since you get new calipers that I can paint blue right away it would work great. Just a feq eustions for you though:

- How long does the install take? How hard is it? Could it be a driveway project??

- Do you plan on holding this deal for long because I probably wont buy for a couple of months??

- Which brake lines do you recommend with this? SS ones, like BF Goodrich would be any good?

Only downside to these brakes I'd have to get 17s for winter, I have 18s now but I was planning on using stock 16s during winter time. oh well! we'll see how it all turns out

I'm sorry man, I skimmed too quickly and I realize now that I read back over it I was simply arguing with something you already agreed with.

I suck, it's time for bed.

Install on the fronts takes no longer than changing pads/rotors except having to bleed the brakes. The rears I will know after tomorow. It looks like those will fairly easy, but you will have to deal with setting the parking brake shoes & dust shields.

We should be running this special for at least a couple of months.

SS lines would be a great addition at that time.

So how about aftermarket brake rear brake pads? Do the calipers use the same pads as the WRX rear calipers? Or is this something new that we're only going to be able to use the stock pads....for now?

I'm pretty sure you're going to have to use different pads, but I will know for sure today. Once the parts are in today for the rears we will get some uninstalled photos up, then tomorrow....on the car.

we were all out there today. Steven's still probably over there.

The rears are the same exact diameter as the H6 rotors... but they're a bit thicker. They appear to weigh about the same as the H6's. The caliper looks very similar to the stock wrx rear caliper but we're pretty sure that the stock wrx caliper would not be wide enough to accomodate these new rotors. I think the pads for the rear should be the same as WRX ones but I'm not positive.

Steven should be on in a bit to give better details than I.

Update: I've found quite a bit of info in the last couple of days! As Rebellion stated, the '05 turbo rear rotors are about the same weight as the 'h6' rotors, they are the exact same diameter, and a little thicker. The caliper brackets will use the same pads as the 'h6' bracket. The '05 turbo rear calipers do have a 1/4" wider mouth than the stock wrx caliper. For this reason, you will have to go with a full setup in the rear: calipers/brackets/rotors. You will be able to reuse your pads. This also means, of course, we will have bobcat pads available for the rear from the get-go. I have taken some pictures, and as soon as Tim gets them to me I will post them.

The only bad news at the moment: We ended up only having 1 caliper come in on the order Friday. I have found that we got the only caliper in the US currently, that isn't already on a car. lol.... We should have the mate to that caliper in the next 1-2 weeks, and will be able to fit the brakes up then. We will have 10 more sets coming in sometime around 2 weeks from today. We do have 10 sets of the fronts in stock now.

That's all for today.

I got the chance to drive the car with the brakes on it and see firsthand.

It's really quite a nice setup for a WRX, even in its current form (no Bobcats, no rears.) I just want to try it with the rears on there plus a set of Bobcats all the way around; I think that will be THE ticket for the car.

So just to clarify, the rears are the same dimater as the H6, but are also vented, and the calipers use the same pad as the WRX?

mav1c,

The rears are a larger diameter than the stock WRX; they are the same diameter as the H6 but are thicker due to being vented. The calipers use the same pad, yet have a larger opening to accomodate the thicker (vented) rotor.

One thing I noticed about the rotors; the outer edges and edge of the hat (around the center) on both the front and rear were painted black. This made for a very clean look overall and will probably not show rust like the regular stock pieces. I intend to keep a tab on this as time goes on to see if that holds true. If you look at the pics here, you can see the front rotors that were on the car before fitting the 05 Legacy Turbo rotors. One thing to note is that the stock WRX rotors had been replaced a mere 2 weeks prior to the brake upgrade.

ehh biggly.. the rears are BIGGER than the stock WRX rotors... they're identical to the H6's.... (the silver non-vented one we had out for display was an H6 rotor)

so yes mav1c... you're correct.
